Maun Airport: Private Flights and Okavango Access

Maun, coordinate arrival with the onward delta trip

A private flight to or from Maun International (MUB / FBMN) allows access to northwestern Botswana to be assessed. The official tourism organisation places Maun on the southern fringes of the Okavango Delta: the arrival flight and onward camp trip should be prepared together. Our Geneva office coordinates the programme with carriers and local reception teams. Request a Maun arrival proposal with your safari dates.

Maun is the arrival point; the camp is another stage

Botswana Tourism describes Maun as a gateway to the delta and Ngamiland. This location makes the airport worth assessing when a visit continues in the region. It does not mean airport arrival and camp arrival are one operation or necessarily use the same aircraft.

The camp name and its reception instructions therefore help from the first exchange. We request details of sectors already booked, their flexibility and the planned Maun meeting point. The itinerary allows time between flights rather than presenting the last sector as a guaranteed immediate connection. If a camp booking has a fixed arrival requirement, include it before selecting the flight reaching Maun.

Assess capacity for the visit dates

On 4 July 2024, CAAB, Botswana’s civil aviation authority, identified runway and terminal capacity constraints at Maun.

These findings support requesting programme acceptance and parking arrangements. They do not amount to a general prohibition of private jets.

The carrier examines the airfield with aircraft performance and publications in force. We have the stand, handler and times specified for your mission. An expansion announcement or future airport project is not used as evidence of capacity already available for the trip. Offers should therefore be assessed against the present airport and actual dates rather than planned infrastructure.

Build the enquiry around the safari sectors

Specify the origin airport, party size and accommodation reservations, followed by baggage volumes.

If a local aircraft continues the trip, its loading conditions need comparison with those of the flight reaching Maun. A suitcase accepted in the first cabin cannot automatically be assumed suitable for the next sector.

As an independent broker, we compare offers on the same programme. Have Maun and the onward sectors assessed together to understand proposed aircraft, reception points and charges. A return involving a final night elsewhere in the country also belongs in the enquiry, since it may change both the collection point and aircraft arrangements.

An aircraft change needs explicit arrangements

When an intercontinental cabin is combined with a flight to the camp, the transition is prepared as a separate stage.

We align the times and arrangements for handing over baggage. Meeting-point information needs to be consistent across the instructions from the parties involved.

Photographic equipment or bulky bags warrant a precise description. Applicable limits are those of the confirmed aircraft and mission; provide the weight and dimensions of the bags to be carried. This lets you understand the conditions before packing for the group. If some equipment is not needed for the camp sector, mention it during preparation so any separate arrangements can be discussed.

Include the stay and aircraft return in the quotation

A Maun arrival followed by several nights in the delta raises the question of whether the arriving aircraft remains or repositions.

We request each option’s conditions and its effect on the return. The whole rotation needs comparison, distinguishing services already booked through the camp from those included in the charter.

For an intercontinental mission, our category cost references place ultra long range aircraft around EUR 9,000 to 12,000 per hour. This euro benchmark does not establish Maun suitability and is neither a Botswana tariff nor the price of the final camp flight. The proposal quotes assessed aircraft, their positioning and programme services.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I budget for a private trip to Maun?

An intercontinental ultra long range mission gives an indicative benchmark of approximately EUR 9,000 to 12,000 per hour. It does not establish aircraft suitability for Maun and is not the local camp flight price. The quotation brings together the assessed routing, any aircraft changes and programme charges.

How long should I allow between Maun and the safari camp?

Duration depends on the specific camp and selected flight or transfer. Arrival formalities and baggage handover at Maun also need preparation. Send existing reservations so we can align confirmed times without presenting the transition between aircraft as an instant connection.

Is Maun in the Okavango Delta region?

Botswana Tourism places Maun on the delta’s southern fringes and describes it as a gateway to Ngamiland; the airport is a stage in the programme. Final camp access depends on its location and services to be arranged separately.

Do capacity constraints mean jets are prohibited?

No. CAAB’s findings are not a general prohibition. The carrier and handler need to assess the mission, performance and reception for the selected dates. We request those confirmations before comparing proposals suited to the airfield.

What baggage weight is allowed on safari flights?

It depends on the aircraft and flight actually booked; we do not apply one limit to every sector. Provide bag dimensions and equipment details so the conditions of the different aircraft can be aligned before departure.
