Miami International Airport: Private Jets and Customs
Miami International, prepare the inspection-centre process
A private jet to or from Miami International (MIA / KMIA) requires the FBO to be distinguished from the General Aviation Center, GAC, processing private and non-scheduled international arrivals. The FAA limits apron access to aircraft with wingspans no greater than 78 ft. Our Geneva office has the process appropriate to the proposed aircraft prepared. Request a Miami International quotation with your origin and programme.
The inspection centre is attached to neither the FBO nor terminal
The US Customs and Border Protection fact sheet describes an inspection facility separate from the FBO and main terminal.
Passengers and baggage pass through before joining ground transport. A private arrival therefore does not automatically mean a car waiting at the aircraft.
The post-inspection collection point requires confirmation.
We send the selected instructions to the driver and passengers. If some party members arrive by airline, they use another process. Each meeting should identify its precise location rather than one address for every traveller at MIA. An onward car trip can then be prepared from the reception point actually agreed for your flight.
| Airport | Miami International |
| Codes | MIA / KMIA |
| Private international inspection | General Aviation Center, separate from FBO and main terminal |
| Advertised CBP service | Generally H24, subject to permission to land |
| Documented CBP notice | At least two hours before foreign departure |
| GAC apron limit | No access for wingspan above 78 ft, approximately 23.8 m |
| Runway 09/27 | 13,016 ft physical length; 11,397 ft LDA in 09 |
Measure the two hours before foreign departure
The CBP sheet dated 5 September 2024 requests contact at least two hours before departure from abroad.
This is not two hours before Miami arrival. The carrier has the current procedure and agreement reconfirmed for the mission.
Inspection is listed as generally available H24, subject to permission to land. We relate that response to the selected programme with the handler. A change of origin or schedule should be communicated in advance so its consequences for the application can be checked. A cabin offer and a completed border arrangement are different elements of preparation.
Build reception around the aircraft’s actual wingspan
The FAA’s 78 ft restriction concerns the GAC apron, not a general prohibition of larger aircraft at Miami International.
An aircraft exceeding it needs coordination for another authorised position. This distinction matters before retaining an ultra long range cabin or VIP airliner.
Our team requests the applicable arrangement with the carrier and handler. Have your Miami aircraft reception prepared with party size and the configuration assessed. The offer needs to describe an arrangement actually examined rather than assign every aircraft the ordinary GAC process. Collection instructions then follow the approved reception rather than the model name alone.
Four runways do not provide four equivalent distances
Miami International has four runways with different declared distances. For 09/27, current FAA data give 13,016 ft physical length, while LDA in 09 is 11,397 ft. The carrier assesses the figures applying to the direction and mission.
Preparation combines payload, expected conditions and parking possibilities. On an intercontinental return, fuel and passenger loading may require a different assessment from arrival. We present a nonstop routing or any technical stop according to the proposal actually obtained. The final quotation should make that routing clear before the cabin is selected.
Opa-locka remains another airport in the programme
Opa-locka is a separate reliever airport for Miami-area business aviation. It is not a MIA terminal. A quotation using that alternative needs to identify it and services must be confirmed for the corresponding airfield.
Your stay address and appointments help compare the options. Another airport choice also requires another transfer to be prepared. We retain the selected airfield explicitly on travel documents so passenger reception and carrier programme remain consistent. A general “Miami” label is insufficient when different offers use different airports.
Budget for the arrival process as well as the cabin
For an intercontinental mission, our charter cost references place the ultra long range category indicatively around EUR 9,000 to 12,000 per hour. This euro figure is not a contractual US tariff. The quotation includes positioning and selected services, followed by aircraft parking or repositioning during the stay. Waiting conditions and return flexibility belong in the comparison alongside the proposed flights.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a private jet at Miami International cost?
Ultra long range aircraft give a reference around EUR 9,000 to 12,000 per hour for an intercontinental mission. The total also depends on positioning and reception, followed by aircraft arrangements during the stay. This euro reference is neither a firm US tariff nor a complete route price.
What flying time and notice should I allow from Europe to MIA?
Flying time is assessed from your departure airport with the proposed aircraft and expected conditions. The September 2024 CBP sheet requests contact at least two hours before foreign departure, not arrival. The current procedure and timing are confirmed for the mission.
Can the driver always meet directly at the aircraft?
The CBP sheet provides for passengers and baggage to pass through an inspection facility separate from the FBO. Ground collection follows the post-inspection instructions; we send the selected location to the driver rather than promise general aircraft access.
Does wingspan above 78 ft prohibit Miami International?
The restriction concerns the GAC apron. It is not a general airport prohibition for every larger aircraft. The carrier and handler need to coordinate another authorised position and applicable process before the aircraft is retained.
Is Opa-locka a MIA business aviation terminal?
No. Opa-locka is a separate Miami-area airport; the quotation must name the airfield actually chosen. Its reception and transfer are arranged separately from Miami International instructions.
