The Trois Glorieuses 2026: three days, three venues

• Saturday 14 November: the Chevaliers du Tastevin chapter dinner at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, by invitation.
• Sunday 15 November: the wine auction at the Halles de Beaune.
• Monday 16 November: the Paulée de Meursault at the Château de Meursault.

The calendar never changes. The auction falls on the third Sunday of November, framed by those two occasions, so a stay can be built around one night or three.

A charity auction since 1859

The Hospices de Beaune date back to 1443, when Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins founded the Hôtel-Dieu. The institution now owns an estate of around 60 hectares across the Burgundy appellations, whose wines it has sold at auction since 1859.

The wines are sold by the pièce, the 228-litre Burgundy barrel, before being raised by a merchant of the buyer's choosing. Proceeds pay for the hospital's equipment and the upkeep of its heritage.

Each year an off-catalogue barrel, the charity barrel, is sold for the benefit of chosen causes. In 2025 it reached 400,000 euros, within a sale totalling more than 18 million euros. Only two sales have raised more, among them 2022 with 29 million.

The Hôtel-Dieu itself, with its glazed tile roofs, is open to visitors a few steps from the Halles. A visit fits easily around the auction on the Sunday morning.

Dijon, not Beaune: the airport that matters

The Beaune-Challanges airfield lies five kilometres from town, but its paved runway measures 910 metres. It suits light aircraft and helicopters, not business jets.

The gateway is Dijon-Bourgogne (DIJ / LFSD), at Ouges, south-east of Dijon. It no longer handles scheduled flights and concentrates on business aviation and medical flights, with two runways of 2,400 and 1,800 metres that open it to every category of jet. Beaune lies about thirty kilometres away as the crow flies.

To save more time, a helicopter can link Dijon to the Beaune airfield, weather permitting in November.

Flight times and planning the weekend

• Geneva to Dijon: about thirty minutes, against more than two hours by road.
• Paris to Dijon: roughly forty minutes from Le Bourget.
• London to Dijon: a little over an hour.
• Brussels or Luxembourg to Dijon: under an hour.

These times make a return trip possible within the Sunday alone: arrive in the morning, attend the auction in the afternoon, leave in the evening. Dijon's hours for a late departure are confirmed with the operator, and we do that before setting your flight to or from Burgundy.

The sale can be followed in the room, but bids are also placed remotely, by telephone or online according to the auction house's terms, so a share of the lots is contested from abroad.
