It is a persistent misconception: flying private exempts you from nothing. Every international flight crosses the same legal borders as a scheduled one: identity checks, the arrival country's immigration rules, customs declarations. What changes is the setting and the time: at the business-aviation terminal, officers receive you in a private lounge, or sometimes come to the aircraft. Where commercial clearance takes an hour, expect in general 15 to 20 minutes.

At some airports without officers at the private terminal, clearance happens in the main hall, with priority handling coordinated by the ground handler.

Before the flight: electronic manifests

The smoothness of arrival is decided before departure. The operator electronically transmits the passenger and crew list to the authorities: eAPIS for the United States, the GAR (General Aviation Report) for the United Kingdom, equivalent forms elsewhere. These notifications go out several hours before landing; for the United Kingdom, at least 4 hours before arrival, on pain of a fine.

The practical consequence: any added or changed passenger must be declared before the flight. This is why our teams collect your documents at booking and lock the list with you.

Visas and authorisations: nothing changes

Entry rules depend on your nationality and destination, not on the mode of transport. Schengen, ESTA for the United States, ETA for the United Kingdom, standard visas: the same requirements as commercial aviation apply. Declarations: allowances, cash, valuables

Customs thresholds are identical to those of commercial flights: in Europe, purchases made outside the Union become declarable beyond €430 per traveller by air; cash, investment gold and bearer instruments must be declared from €10,000 when leaving or arriving from a non-EU country ($10,000 and the FinCEN 105 form in the United States). Can you land anywhere abroad?

No: only airports designated as international points of entry have customs and immigration services. To reach a small airfield closer to your final destination, two options: officers travelling to the aircraft (possible in some countries, with advance arrangement), or a first stop at a point of entry before continuing to your airfield.
