Montauk Airport: Runway and Private Flights
Montauk, a private arrival requiring an aircraft assessment
Montauk Airport, MTP / KMTP, has a single runway 06/24 measuring 3,246 ft, approximately 989 m in physical length. Jets require prior permission from the airport manager. For a private flight to or from Montauk, have your aircraft and timing checked before selecting this arrival at the eastern end of Long Island.
Our Geneva office prepares European travel and its American connections. As an independent broker, IBC Aviation obtains a feasibility assessment from the air operator rather than promising a jet based on the airfield name alone.
989 physical metres do not mean 989 metres for landing
| Airport | Montauk, New York State |
| Codes | MTP / KMTP |
| Physical runway 06/24 | 3,246 × 75 ft, approximately 989 × 23 m |
| Runway 06 landing value | 2,944 ft on the FAA approach chart |
| Runway 24 landing value | 2,578 ft on the FAA approach chart |
| Jets | Airport manager’s prior permission required |
| RNAV GPS 06 and 24 | Both procedures unavailable at night in the reviewed FAA cycle |
Both thresholds are displaced. The approach charts therefore give landing lengths shorter than the full pavement. For passengers, this distinction explains why an aircraft considered for another runway cannot automatically be offered for Montauk.
Airfield data comes from the FAA supplement effective from 3 September to 29 October 2026.
The approach charts used here belong to the cycle effective from 1 to 29 October 2026. The crew rechecks documentation and temporary information for the flight date.
Jet permission does not replace performance calculations
The FAA notice specifies that jets require the manager’s prior permission, or PPR.
We submit the aircraft type and programme to obtain a response for the intended request. This is separate from the technical calculation: both need a satisfactory outcome before selecting the airfield.
The air operator assesses weight, wind, runway condition and available distances. A small passenger party does not qualify every jet. If the preferred aircraft is unsuitable, we compare another category or arrival at a different airport.
A turboprop such as the Pilatus PC-12 may form part of the aircraft assessment for the final sector. That choice remains subject to the actual mission; inclusion in a comparison does not confirm Montauk for every load and set of conditions.
Both RNAV approaches are unavailable at night
The FAA RNAV GPS 06 and 24 charts in the reviewed cycle both state that the procedure is unavailable at night.
A late arrival therefore needs assessment with this restriction from the outset.
The published limitation concerns use of these two RNAV GPS procedures. The air operator determines what the rules, weather and available facilities actually permit for your programme.
Tell us when you need to arrive in Montauk. We check whether that timing is compatible with a solution at this airfield or whether another arrival followed by a suitable transfer should be preferred.
Check out-of-season services and helicopter permissions too
The FAA publication describes daytime staffing from 15 April through October. For travel outside that period, services and parking cannot be inferred from a summer visit. We ask what can be provided on the selected date and at the requested time.
Helicopters have specific permission requirements: movements between sunset and sunrise and use of the helicopter ramp require authorisation. A helicopter connection therefore needs preparation as a sector in its own right, including the arrival point and local response.
The driver receives the confirmed pickup location and passenger programme. If the air arrival changes, we update that instruction; road time is assessed according to the address and expected conditions rather than quoting one fixed duration for every stay.
Build the budget around a feasible solution
The first comparison concerns feasibility: an appropriate aircraft into Montauk, or another airfield followed by a transfer.
Our New York airport guide provides references for the latter arrangement. We also assess the return and whether the aircraft can remain on site.
If a light jet solution is selected at a suitable airfield, our price references start around EUR 4,000 per hour. This category benchmark is neither a promise of landing at Montauk, a firm US tariff nor the complete stay price. The quotation prices the solution actually validated and its associated charges.

Frequently asked questions
What price should I allow for a private arrival in Montauk?
The quote first depends on the aircraft capable of the mission or the alternative airport selected. To frame a light jet solution at a suitable airfield, the reference starts around EUR 4,000 per hour; it does not confirm Montauk and is neither a trip total nor a contractual local tariff.
Is flight time enough to select a late return from Montauk?
No. Duration is established using the departure point and aircraft, but both reviewed RNAV GPS approaches are unavailable at night and services are seasonal. We assess the full schedule before selecting the field, with an alternative where needed.
Is a jet automatically accepted if its specification mentions short runways?
The FAA requires jets to obtain the manager’s prior permission. The air operator must also perform its own calculations. The model, load and conditions on the day must match the distances actually available.
Which landing distance should be used for Montauk?
The physical runway measures 3,246 ft, but the FAA approach charts effective from 1 to 29 October 2026 give 2,944 ft for 06 and 2,578 ft for 24. Displaced thresholds prevent the full physical length being described as available for landing in both directions.
Can a night helicopter connection be scheduled without further permission?
The FAA notice requires permission for operations between sunset and sunrise and for use of the helicopter ramp. We have these points confirmed alongside the timing and necessary ground services.
