Private Jet to Oman

Private Jet to Oman: Muscat, Musandam, Salalah

Oman by private jet, three gateways

The sultanate revolves around three main airports. The table below places them.

HubAirport (code)Good to know
Muscat (capital)Muscat (MCT)Main hub, Jetex FBO
Salalah (Dhofar, south)Salalah (SLL)Khareef season, green monsoon
Musandam (fjords)Khasab (KHS)Demanding valley approach

From Europe, a heavy jet or an ultra-long-range aircraft is well suited: browse our ultra-long-range jets fleet.

Muscat, the capital

Muscat (MCT), formerly Seeb International, is the country's main hub, with a new terminal since 2018 and a Jetex FBO, the sultanate's sole business aviation operator, present in Muscat as in Salalah. The city lines up the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, open to non-Muslims Saturday to Thursday, generally from 08:00 to 11:00, the Royal Opera House, and the iconic Al Bustan Palace on Muscat Bay. The centre is about thirty minutes from the airport.

Musandam and Jabal Akhdar

To the north, separate from the rest of the country, the Musandam peninsula unfolds its fjords, nicknamed the "Norway of the Middle East"; it is reached via Khasab (KHS), whose valley approach is demanding, or by road from Dubai, around 2 hours, to Six Senses Zighy Bay. Inland, the Jabal Akhdar, the "green mountain" of the Al Hajar range, peaks at the Saiq plateau around 2,000 m: access is reserved for 4x4s, with a checkpoint, about 2 hours 30 by road from Muscat, where the Alila Jabal Akhdar stands.

Deserts and Salalah

The sultanate also rolls out its deserts. The Sharqiya Sands, formerly Wahiba Sands, spread around 12,500 km2 of golden dunes reaching a hundred metres, a few hours from Muscat. Further south-west, the Rub al Khali, the "Empty Quarter", rolls out its dunes up to 250 m over a cross-border expanse of around 650,000 km2. Finally, Salalah (SLL), in Dhofar, lives to the rhythm of the khareef: the south-west monsoon, from around 21 June to 21 September, turns the mountains green, a rare contrast in the Gulf. A tourism festival is held there each summer, expected from mid-July to end of August, with 2026 dates still to be confirmed.

Permits, which jet, which access?

Every private flight to Oman goes through the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which grew out of the PACA. As a guide, allow 48 to 72 hours' notice and a processing time of around 5 working days, filed via a local agent; the working week runs Sunday to Thursday. From Europe, around 7 hours of flight call for a heavy jet or an ultra-long-range aircraft; from the Gulf, the hop is short, Dubai being just around 340 km away. These times are indicative. We are the ones who handle these steps, as our article on the added value of a charter broker and our guide to the private terminal (FBO) explain.
