Art Basel Hong Kong 2027: what the fair represents
Third pillar of the Art Basel network alongside Basel, Miami and Paris, the Hong Kong edition is the meeting point of the Asian market. The previous edition drew more than 91,500 visitors and some 4,000 artists, before an audience of collectors, museums and institutions from across the region.

The free port, the argument the fair never advertises
Hong Kong levies neither customs duty nor import VAT. Only four categories of goods are taxed in the territory, liquor, tobacco, hydrocarbon oil and methyl alcohol: art is not among them. A work therefore enters entirely free of charge, which no European marketplace allows.
The contrast with France is stark. A Paris purchase may require an export certificate and, to leave the Union, a European licence, as our guide to flying an artwork home by private jet sets out. In Hong Kong the question does not arise on arrival. It does arise on departure, depending on where the work is ultimately going: that is the point we check with you before the return flight.

Private flights are handled at the Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre, at Hong Kong International Airport. Opened in 1998, it was the first business aviation terminal in Asia to bring customs, immigration and quarantine together on one site, and it has been voted best Asian FBO by the trade press for eighteen consecutive years, from 2008 to 2025.
