Bombardier Global 8000: Range and London City Access

The Bombardier Global 8000 can now be considered for an arrival at London City, LCY, following the manufacturer’s announcement on 10 September 2026. The approval applies where the aircraft’s registration jurisdiction has approved its steep-approach supplement, and operator and crew requirements still need checking. LCY has a 1,508 m runway and does not operate throughout the night, so our Geneva office examines those conditions before proposing travel to or from London. Model approval does not confirm an individual flight

The Bombardier announcement and its application note distinguish UK CAA approval from the registration conditions attached to access. A Global 8000 offered on the charter market is not, by that fact alone, confirmed for your LCY arrival.

London City’s private jet centre also publishes an application process covering procedures and training. We seek confirmation from the proposed operator before retaining the airport in a quotation.

Three separate validations are required.

A 1,508 m runway with a 5.5-degree approach

The official London City aerodrome chart shows a 1,508 m by 30 m runway. Its 5.5-degree approach explains why specific procedures are required. For passengers, the practical consequence is that we establish operational suitability before using LCY as the basis of a proposal.

An approved landing does not establish whether the aircraft can depart with the payload and fuel needed for the next long-haul sector. The operator calculates performance for the loading, temperature and runway conditions, and we provide the complete itinerary and baggage requirements so the assessment covers the actual mission rather than one arrival.

Price and flight time depend on the full itinerary

For budget orientation, ultra-long-range aircraft represent a category benchmark of approximately €9,000 to €12,000 per flight hour. This is not a guaranteed Global 8000 rate. Positioning, availability and the services required determine the proposal; our charter cost information sets out the category distinctions.

Flight time needs to be assessed from your actual departure airport. Intercontinental range does not establish the duration of a regional sector or the saving through to your meeting. We consider both flying and ground transport against the final address. A fixed transfer saving would not apply to every London destination.

If another airport better fits the schedule, we compare that option without treating an alternative as automatically accepted or available.

Saturday afternoon can determine your return airport

London City’s published flight operating hours include a closure from 13:00 Saturday until 12:30 Sunday, in UK local time. The final thirty minutes of operation are reserved for previously scheduled flights unavoidably delayed. We do not treat that allowance as a normal departure window to book.

If a Saturday lunch runs beyond the permitted departure window, the programme may require another airport or a different return date. We examine that constraint while preparing the quotation and arrange the corresponding transfer.

An open terminal does not authorise aircraft movements.

Published range does not establish a maximum-range LCY departure

Bombardier publishes 14,816 km of theoretical range and a maximum speed of Mach 0.95, subject to operating assumptions and conditions. These describe the model. They do not promise that range at maximum speed or the same performance from every runway with every payload.

The Global 8000 entered service in December 2025. When assessing it against other ultra-long-range jets, the useful comparison is your sequence of sectors and how the cabin will be used.
