Cairo, Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum

The big new development is at Giza. The Grand Egyptian Museum was officially inaugurated on 1 November 2025 and opened to the public on 4 November 2025, after a partial trial phase that began a year earlier. It holds more than 100,000 artefacts and reunites, for the first time, the complete Tutankhamun collection, that is 5,398 pieces, a short walk from the pyramid plateau and the Sphinx.

On access, two airports serve the region. Cairo International (CAI) is the long-standing business aviation hub, with a dedicated executive terminal (Hall 4), its customs and immigration, and an adjacent FBO. Sphinx International (SPX), newer, west of Cairo on the Giza side, is presented by operators as closer to the pyramids; its exact distance is to be confirmed with the ground handler. Cairo is a Level 2 airport: a slot must be approved, though without the competition of a fully coordinated airport.

Luxor, the Valley of the Kings and the Nile

Heading south, Luxor (LXR) opens the door to Upper Egypt: the temples of Karnak and Luxor on the east bank, the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens on the west bank. The city is also the starting point for Nile cruises, on the Luxor to Aswan axis. It is a classic sequence after Cairo: the pyramids and the museum, then a leg south for the Nile valley.

The Red Sea: Hurghada, El Gouna, Marsa Alam

The Red Sea lines up its beach resorts. Hurghada (HRG) serves in particular the integrated resort of El Gouna, to the north. Marsa Alam (RMF), further south, around 60 to 70 km from the centre, gives access to reefs and dive sites. Sharm El Sheikh (SSH), in the southern Sinai, completes the seaside offer. These airports welcome business aviation; the Egyptian permit remains required, as everywhere in the country.

From Europe: which jet, which access?

From Western Europe, allow around 4 hours to 4 hours 30 to Cairo (a distance of about 3,200 km): a midsize is comfortably enough, with a super-midsize or heavy adding cabin comfort for groups or longer legs. These times are indicative and vary with aircraft and route. On the regulatory side, the Egyptian authority (ECAA) requires a landing permit for every private flight, to be anticipated by several working days; the overflight permit is filed at least 24 hours ahead. We are the ones who handle these steps, as our article on the added value of a charter broker explains.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Grand Egyptian Museum open?

Yes. After a partial trial phase that began in October 2024, the Grand Egyptian Museum was officially inaugurated on 1 November 2025 and opened to the public on 4 November 2025. It holds more than 100,000 artefacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection, that is 5,398 pieces.

Which airport is closest to the Giza pyramids?

Sphinx International (SPX), west of Cairo, is presented by operators as closer to the pyramids than Cairo International, with simple infrastructure. Cairo (CAI) remains the long-standing business aviation hub, with its dedicated executive terminal. Sphinx's exact distance to the pyramids is to be confirmed with the ground handler.

Do you need a permit for a private flight to Egypt?

Yes. The Egyptian authority (ECAA) requires a landing permit for every private flight, to be anticipated by several working days, and an overflight permit filed at least 24 hours ahead. Cairo is a Level 2 airport, where a slot must be approved. Our teams anticipate these steps.

How long is the flight from Paris to Cairo?

Around 4 hours 15 to 4 hours 30 for a distance of about 3,200 km, to adjust for aircraft and route. A midsize covers this distance comfortably.

What is the best season for Egypt?

The most comfortable period runs from October to April, avoiding the summer heat of Upper Egypt. It is the ideal season to combine Cairo, the Nile valley and the Red Sea.
