What the second edition changes

The first edition was a trial. This one is not: the number of participating maisons has grown by more than 50% in a year, which, in a sector where calendars are settled eighteen months ahead, means the brands have made up their minds.

The programme is built around The Symposium, a series of conversations with leading voices in watchmaking, alongside exhibitions and invitation-only presentations. The format sits somewhere between a trade fair and a public event, and that mixture is exactly what draws collectors: pieces appear here that will not be seen anywhere else in Southeast Asia this year.

The timing matters. September marks the end of the rainy season in Thailand, ahead of the high-season influx. Central hotels are still available and the city breathes. A three-day stay therefore combines easily with a beach extension.

Airports and transfers: traffic, not distance

Don Mueang (DMK) remains the business aviation field for Bangkok. It sits north of the capital, some thirty kilometres from Siam Paragon. Suvarnabhumi (BKK) handles the long-haul commercial traffic.

On that run, the real variable is not mileage but congestion. A transfer that takes forty minutes on a Sunday morning can take twice that on a Friday evening.

Which aircraft from Europe or the Gulf

From Europe, Bangkok is reached non-stop with an ultra long range aircraft. From Dubai or Doha, a heavy jet is comfortably enough. The choice turns on range and passenger count, not on the standing of the aircraft.

For a small party moving on to an island straight afterwards, the calculation shifts. A more modest aircraft able to land at Phuket or Samui sometimes beats a long-range machine sitting on the Don Mueang apron for six days.
