Edeis has run the aerodrome since 1 January 2018, under a 45-year public service concession awarded by the DGAC, the French civil aviation authority. Business passengers use a terminal on the east side of the field, with a lounge shared by crews and passengers, open from 08:00 to 18:00 every day except 1 January and 25 December.

What the AIP takes away from 1,604 m of runway

On paper, runway 14/32 is 1,604 m long. The AIP nonetheless declares only 1,249 m for landing on runway 14 and 1,124 m on runway 32, between 355 and 480 m less. At night, every declared distance, take-off included, falls back to those two figures.

The pavement is published at PCN 15. The two runways at Marseille-Provence are rated 58 and 70.

These are the numbers of a light aviation field, home to several flying clubs and to the helicopter manufacturer Guimbal. For a jet, the operator reruns the calculation for every flight, working from landing weight, temperature, wind and runway condition. Our teams only put forward a turboprop or a light jet for Les Milles, and send anything heavier to Marseille-Provence.

No customs: London and Dubai arrive via Marseille-Provence

The customs and police entry in the AIP is blank for Les Milles, and the French airports union confirms that the field is not a border crossing point. A flight from the United Kingdom, the Emirates or the United States therefore cannot land there.

Marseille-Provence publishes the opposite: air traffic control, customs, fuel and handling around the clock, and 3,500 m on the main runway. An aircraft leaving one of the London airports, Dubai or Teterboro can land there at whatever hour suits, and its passengers reach Aix in about thirty minutes by road. Geneva, Paris and Luxembourg sit inside the Schengen area. From those cities, Les Milles stays within reach with no customs formalities.

The tower closes at 19:30 in summer, 18:00 in winter

In local time, the Aix tower operates Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 19:30 in summer, until 19:00 on Sundays, and from 08:00 to 18:00 every day in winter. The airport operator itself stops at 18:00 all year round.

After closing time the field changes character. Runway lighting is switched on by radio with 12 hours' prior permission, handling remains mandatory, and the frequency reverts to self-announcement in French only, a detail that matters to any crew without the language. Extended hours or a reopening of the airport must be requested from Edeis and are charged, as is car access to the aircraft.

Festival d'Aix: 1 to 20 July 2027

The Festival d'Aix-en-Provence has set its next edition for 1 to 20 July 2027. The 78th edition, in 2026, drew close to 64,000 spectators to five opera productions and sixteen concerts, across the Théâtre de l'Archevêché, the Grand Théâtre de Provence and the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud.

Evening performances end after the tower at Les Milles has closed. A same-night departure is therefore planned from Marseille-Provence rather than Les Milles, where it would need lighting on prior notice and a frequency with no controller. For a flight the following day, the tower reopens at 08:00.

Villa La Coste, a Palace at Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade

Villa La Coste appears in the register of Palace hotels kept by Atout France, in its 2 June 2026 version. Its 31 suites, ten with a private pool, look out over the vineyards of the Château La Coste estate.

The hotel quotes 45 minutes by road from Marseille-Provence airport and lists Aix-Les Milles among the airfields open to private jets. The estate has its own helicopter landing area: after touching down at Marseille, the last leg can therefore be flown by helicopter.

PC-12 or light jet at Les Milles, midsize at Marseille

Flights are short: about half an hour from Nice, some forty minutes from Geneva and a little over an hour from Paris-Le Bourget, to be confirmed depending on the aircraft, the winds and the day's slots.

• Pilatus PC-12: a single-engine turboprop carrying 6 passengers with baggage, built for short runways and the simplest choice for Les Milles.
• Phenom 300: a light jet with 7 seats, hourly rates from €4,000, workable at Les Milles once the weight calculation is done.
• Citation XLS: the midsize option, billed from €4,800 an hour, which we route to Marseille-Provence when a group or bulky luggage is involved.
