Private Jet to Dijon: 2,400 m Runway, Customs and Hours

Dijon by private jet, 40 minutes from Paris-Le Bourget

The Union of French Airports lists the field as Dijon-Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, while the French AIP still uses its older name, Dijon-Longvic. Edeis runs it for a joint authority formed by Dijon Métropole and the regional council. The same listing presents it first as a business aviation airport, with a reception area set aside for private flights and a crew lounge, about ten minutes by car from the city centre.

09:00 to 18:00, then 24 hours' notice

There is no control tower at Dijon. The field runs an AFIS service, in which an officer passes traffic and weather information to crews but issues no clearances. The AIP publishes it daily from 09:00 to 18:00 local time, with an extension available on a request filed at least 24 hours in advance.

That notice period covers more than the radio frequency. Outside AFIS hours, rescue and firefighting cover drops to level 1 and only returns to level 2 or 5 on the same request.

A return planned for 22:00 is therefore settled the day before. We file the extension together with the ground handling booking, so that nothing is missing on the day of the flight.

Customs asks for 8 hours' notice on weekdays

Dijon-Bourgogne is a designated border crossing point, and customs handles flights from outside the Schengen area as well as intra-Schengen sectors. The AIP in force since 6 August 2026 sets customs attendance at Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00, with 8 hours' notice. The AIP states these times in UTC; we have converted them to local time.

Weekends follow a different rule. For a Saturday or Sunday flight, the request must be in by 11:00 on the Friday, and by 12:00 the day before a public holiday. A Sunday arrival from London, decided on the Saturday, falls outside that framework.

For a flight from Dubai or New York, the same notice applies, and it is worth building the arrival time around it rather than the other way round.

Ground handling is mandatory above 3 tonnes

Every aircraft heavier than 3 tonnes must use the airport's handling service, which in practice means every jet. The request goes in at least 24 hours ahead through the online booking platform the operator uses, the same channel that covers hangar space, hotel rooms and cars.

De-icing season opens on 15 November, the announced date of the 2026 Hospices de Beaune wine auction. For an early departure after a frosty night, the treatment belongs in the handling request.

Beaune has no runway for a jet

The airfield closest to the Hospices, Beaune-Challanges, has a single paved runway of 910 m by 30 m, and the French aeronautical information service (SIA) publishes its pavement for aircraft of 5.7 tonnes or less. On 910 metres we do not offer a jet; at best we assess a turboprop, case by case.

Dijon is therefore the gateway to the Côte de Beaune. When weather intervenes, Dole-Jura (DLE) is the alternate to keep in mind, with 2,230 m of runway and a Category I ILS, about 35 minutes by road from Dijon according to the Union of French Airports. Dijon itself publishes only VOR and RNP approaches.

What brings travellers to Dijon

Since 2022 the Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin has occupied Dijon's former general hospital, a site whose hospital history goes back to the 13th century, after a ten-year conversion. It houses exhibitions, restaurants and shops alongside the Burgundy wine school, and it builds its identity on two UNESCO recognitions: the gastronomic meal of the French and the Climats of the Burgundy vineyards.

The Climats are vineyard plots bounded by dry-stone walls and meurgers, the heaps of stones that winegrowers cleared from their plots. They joined the World Heritage List on 4 July 2015. Their heritage runs from the Cellier de Clairvaux in Dijon to the Clos de Vougeot.

Every third Sunday of November, the Halles de Beaune host the Hospices de Beaune wine auction, run by Sotheby's. The 2026 sale, the 166th, is announced for 15 November, and for that weekend we book handling and cars as soon as the flight is confirmed.
