Abidjan keeps GMT all year round, with no daylight saving time, the same clock as Accra. That makes it two hours behind Paris in summer and one hour behind in winter; for travellers based in London, Abidjan matches UK time in winter and runs one hour behind in summer. Leave Le Bourget at 08:00 in summer and you land around 12:15 local time, or around 13:15 in winter.

Le Bourget: no jet departures between 22:15 and 06:00

The French AIP is unambiguous. At Le Bourget, no jet-powered aircraft may leave its parking stand for take-off between 22:15 and 06:00 local time, whatever its noise certification. An evening departure for Abidjan must therefore taxi before 22:15, and it lands in Abidjan in the middle of the night.

The return leg works differently. Between 23:30 and 06:15, landing at Le Bourget is banned only for jets not certified under chapters 3, 4 or 14 of ICAO Annex 16, a rule aimed at older aircraft rather than business jets in production today. An overnight Abidjan to Paris flight, leaving late in the evening and landing at Le Bourget early in the morning, is the most comfortable pattern on this leg.

At the other end, the ASECNA AIP describes an airport that operates day and night. On a long-haul flight whose arrival time shifts with the winds, that matters.

Landing permit and visa: allow several days

No foreign aircraft may overfly or land in Côte d'Ivoire without authorisation, and an international flight must arrive and depart through an international airport, according to the ASECNA AIP chapter on aircraft entry. For a private flight, the request is filed at least 2 to 7 days before departure. A charter flight also needs prior authorisation, which the operator requests as soon as the booking is confirmed. A Paris to Abidjan trip therefore cannot be put together in a few hours, unlike a Paris to Nice.

For passengers, the Ivorian visa is applied for online through SNEDAI, the only website recognised by the Ivorian State for visa applications. The answer comes within 48 working hours, sometimes longer. The visa is then printed on arrival, after biometric enrolment at the airport, where the enrolment desks operate 24/7.
