Douala is not the only way in. Aéroports du Cameroun runs the airport, about 5.7 km south-east of the city (3.07 nautical miles). The Douala section of the AIP, current as of 3 September 2026, lists what matters for a business flight.

• Runway 12/30: 2,852 m by 45 m, asphalt concrete
• Around the clock: customs and immigration, health, air traffic control, ground handling and fuel
• Fuel: the hydrant system is listed as unserviceable, so Jet A1 comes by refuelling truck
• Hangar: none for visiting aircraft, which stay on the apron
• Accommodation: a Best Western Plus hotel 750 m from the airport

On maintenance, the AIP mentions only small and medium repairs, carried out by Camairco, Caverton Aviation and the air force. The French AIP, by contrast, states that all repairs are possible at Le Bourget. When the aircraft stays several days in Douala, the operator weighs that gap. It also plans a suitable alternate airport, since low-visibility procedures are not approved at Douala.

Cameroon permit: the CCAA first, then Defence

The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority handles requests for overflight with or without landing. Its form for non-scheduled commercial flights, the category a charter falls into, asks for the charter contract, the air operator certificate, the insurance policy, and the registration and airworthiness certificates. Once the CCAA director general approves, the file goes to the Ministry of Defence, for information or for approval.

The same form asks for the captain's name, the passenger count and the full route, so these details are fixed early. For a private flight, the common section of the ASECNA AIP places Cameroon among the ten states that require prior overflight and stopover authorisation, sought at least 2 to 7 days before the flight.

Cameroon visa: online first, then the consulate or the airport

French citizens obtain their visa before departure, with a passport valid six months beyond the planned return date and proof of accommodation, according to France Diplomatie (page updated on 15 September 2026). Stays over 30 days, or trips for work, call for a temporary or long-stay visa. For British, Nigerian or South African passports, our teams confirm the rule that applies.

Applications go through evisacam.cm only, the official portal. Once the fee is paid online, the visa is granted within 72 hours, or 24 hours on the express procedure, and the portal recommends applying at least ten days before entry. The traveller then receives an authorisation with a QR code. Anyone living in a city with a Cameroonian embassy or consulate goes there for biometric enrolment and the visa sticker; everyone else has the visa printed at the point of entry.

Yellow fever vaccination is compulsory, and the international certificate is required on entry. Currency, securities or valuables above one million CFA francs must also be declared to customs, on arrival and on departure.
