What actually separates it from a midsize

Super midsize is a commercial category, not a regulatory one: neither ICAO, the FAA nor EASA define it. On manufacturer data, cabin height barely separates it from the midsize segment, which is the comparison most brochures lead with.

Three figures do the real separating:

• Cabin width, roughly 1.96 m on a midsize against 2.11 to 2.19 m here
• Cabin length, which is what makes a four hour sector comfortable for eight passengers
• Takeoff distance, longer by around 150 to 380 metres depending on the models compared

That last figure is the one that decides. A super midsize opens longer sectors and a wider cabin, but closes some short or high elevation airfields that a midsize can still use at maximum weight. Range in this class runs four and a half to six and a half hours.

Ask the runway question first. If your departure or arrival airfield is short, at altitude, or both, the midsize may be the only one of the two that operates at maximum weight, and the comparison ends there. If both can use the runway, the super midsize wins on cabin and range.
