Cannes 2027: what those twelve days represent

The Festival is not only a film competition. It also hosts the Marché du Film, one of the world's leading professional film markets, drawing producers, distributors and financiers across the same fortnight. Add the red carpet ascents, the yacht parties in the old port and the private dinners in the hills behind town.

For business aviation the overlap produces a simple effect: arrivals bunch on the two or three opening days, departures on the final weekend, and the rest of the Riviera carries on as usual underneath. Riviera May brings its own congestion besides, with the Monaco Grand Prix only days apart.

Two airports, two logics

• Cannes-Mandelieu (CEQ): closest to the Palais des Festivals, minutes away by road. Dedicated to business and leisure aviation, it is the reference access, though its runway suits light aircraft and some midsize types only.
• Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE): some thirty kilometres away, it takes every size, up to the ultra-long-range aircraft arriving from Los Angeles or the Gulf. Its business terminals handle most of the fortnight's heavy traffic.

The choice is therefore made on the aircraft before it is made on distance. A party arriving from the American west coast lands at Nice; four passengers from Paris or Geneva save time at Mandelieu. Helicopters also link Nice to Cannes in minutes, an option many take at road rush hours.

The booking calendar, the real subject

Across this fortnight the aircraft is not the scarce resource: parking is. Ground slots on the Riviera are secured far in advance, and operators often reposition their aircraft after drop-off, which changes the economics of the trip.

Our advice comes in three parts. Lock the flight as soon as your dates on site are known, without waiting for final invitations. Allow one to two hours of flexibility on arrival slots, especially on opening day. And decide early between an aircraft waiting on site and a rotation, because that call drives the budget far more than the model chosen.
