Private Jet Charter in Africa: Planning and Budget
Three ways to arrange private jet charter in Africa
Private jet charter in Africa serves three types of trip: an intercontinental arrival, a flight between African countries or a domestic flight. Our Paris office, working with Geneva or Dubai according to your departure, checks the mission with an authorised operator. Abidjan and Dakar publish 24-hour airport services, which don't guarantee an immediate charter departure. For an arrival, a return or several stops, ask us to assess your flight to or from Africa.
Start with the meeting address and the time you need to be there. Airports serving the same region can involve quite different transfers. Passenger numbers, luggage and any return then allow proposals to be compared on the same basis.
Which kind of flight fits your itinerary?
An African itinerary is defined by borders and passenger movements as well as distance. Article 7 of the Chicago Convention allows states to refuse certain paid domestic transport. Our teams therefore have the commercial rights checked for each sector before proposing that one aircraft stays with you throughout.
- Intercontinental flight: the programme begins with an international arrival, for example between Europe and West Africa. Range and cabin requirements are assessed with the actual passenger and luggage load.
- Regional sector: a flight between two African countries requires permissions and commercial rights appropriate to the operator. Nearby capitals don't remove those requirements.
- Domestic flight: carrying passengers between two cities in the same country can change the legal position. An operator authorised for that operation is sourced where necessary.
Booking the whole cabin doesn't make a flight legally non-commercial. That distinction matters when you charter an aircraft with crew. It prevents a schedule being built around rules intended for an owner flying on their own account. Our explanation of African flight permits sets out how this preparation works.
Which airports suit your meetings and final destination?
ASECNA's published distances show why the ground transfer matters: approximately 13 km at Abidjan and 44 km at Dakar from their urban reference points. These are geographical distances, not driving times. We assess the airport against your meeting location, then arrange a transfer suited to the expected arrival time.
| Region | Arrival points to assess | Planning question |
| North Africa | Casablanca, Marrakech, Cairo | Which airport fits the international arrival and the meeting address? |
| West Africa | Abidjan, Dakar, Accra, Lagos | Which rights cover the arrival and the next sector? |
| Central Africa | Kinshasa, Libreville, Douala | Are the entry airport and onward ground arrangements confirmed? |
| East Africa | Nairobi and neighbouring capitals subject to assessment | Which airport and entry documents fit the purpose of travel? |
| Southern Africa | Johannesburg, Cape Town | Which operator can undertake the international and domestic sectors? |
These cities provide starting points for a comparison, rather than an inventory of locally available aircraft. Connecting the stops remains a mission assessment. For an industrial site or a remote destination, we also need the access address, the local contact and any conditions for entering the site. An airport name alone won't settle the final part of the trip.
In East Africa, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority places Entebbe approximately 40 km from Kampala and highlights traffic at peak times. We allow a margin before the meeting: time saved in the air still needs a realistic ground schedule on arrival.
What should the budget include beyond flight hours?
Hourly rates help compare categories: light jets start at €4,000 per hour and heavy jets at €6,500 per hour. These figures don't promise an aircraft based in Africa or the complete price of your flight. The quotation also accounts for positioning and the local costs of the particular mission.
- Very light jet: from €3,500 per hour.
- Light jet: from €4,000 per hour.
- Midsize jet: from €4,800 per hour.
- Super-midsize jet: from €5,500 per hour.
- Heavy jet: from €6,500 per hour.
- Ultra-long-range jet: €9,000 to €12,000 per hour.
The quotation specifies positioning flights, taxes, ground handling and the terms for time spent on the ground. A return after several nights changes the costs. Review our private jet pricing by category when preparing the request, then compare the complete amount and exactly what it covers.
Keeping the aircraft nearby or releasing it and bringing it back is a scheduling decision. Parking costs, crew rest and the location of the available aircraft matter alongside the length of your meeting. We request proposals using the same timetable before recommending the arrangement. That makes the financial comparison meaningful.
Organising your mission with IBC Aviation
Our offices coordinate the programme with the operator and local handling teams: Paris or Geneva for Europe, Dubai for a Gulf departure. As a planning reference, the Ivorian ANAC specifies at least four working days for submissions within the relevant regime. We check its application before fixing the first sector.
Send the departure and arrival points, dates, passenger nationalities and meeting times. Tell us where there is flexibility. An adjustable return can help the aircraft search, while a fixed appointment requires the whole itinerary to be checked around it. Send your African itinerary to our charter team for a proposal based on those requirements.
IBC Aviation acts as an independent broker. We source the aircraft from a certified operator and examine the mission permissions. Our article on the air operator certificate explains that check. An aircraft brochure establishes neither availability on your dates nor permission to undertake every sector on your schedule.
How do you choose an aircraft beyond the seat count?
Abidjan's 3,000 m runway and Dakar's 3,500 m runway, published in their AIPs, don't admit every aircraft at every operating weight. The operator calculates performance for the conditions of the flight. We then compare cabin space, baggage capacity and usable range for the people actually travelling on your mission.
A Phenom 300 can be considered for a regional sector, while a Falcon 2000 EX/LX belongs in the comparison for a longer mission. These models illustrate categories; the particular aircraft and its configuration need confirmation for the flight and any subsequent sectors.
Large suitcases, files and equipment affect the selection as much as passenger numbers. Tell us if you need to work together, sleep or keep particular bags accessible. For a larger delegation, group travel planning may mean assessing another aircraft type rather than using several small jets. The proposal should follow the group.
Why check the flights before fixing the meetings?
Senegal publishes a submission period of at least ten days for a one-off commercial flight in the order reproduced in its AIP. In Côte d'Ivoire, the ANAC guide dated 18 October 2023 specifies four working days within its scope. Our teams confirm the applicable requirements before you commit.
The 24-hour customs services published for Abidjan and Dakar describe service hours. They don't issue the aircraft's permission. Senegal's AIC dated 6 November 2025 separately describes a 72-hour submission period for its non-commercial scope and certain overflight permissions. That procedure doesn't replace the commercial charter regime.
In South Africa, the SACAA requires a foreign operator permit for the international commercial services concerned. Passenger entry documents follow another process. We bring these files together to identify what is still outstanding, without treating an application as an assurance of approval or admission.
Our Geneva office also prepares returns and regional extensions: share the dates and stops of your African trip.

Frequently asked questions
How much does private jet charter in Africa cost?
Light jets start at €4,000 per hour and heavy jets at €6,500 per hour. These are category references; the quotation also accounts for positioning, local charges and time on the ground according to the programme. It confirms the aircraft actually available and the complete price of your mission.
How long is a private flight in Africa?
Flight time depends on the cities and aircraft. Abidjan-Dakar covers approximately 1,800 km between the airports, with an estimated planning range of 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours. The operator confirms the forecast time for winds and routing. An intercontinental flight requires a separate assessment, including any necessary fuel stop.
Can the same jet fly every sector of an African itinerary?
That depends on the rights for each sector. Article 7 of the Chicago Convention allows states to refuse certain paid domestic transport. A landing permit therefore doesn’t settle the whole programme. We check the regime with the operator and source a different arrangement where a sector requires it.
Does a 24-hour airport allow an immediate departure?
No. The 24-hour services published at Abidjan and Dakar don’t replace flight permissions. Senegal’s published text notably specifies ten days for submitting a one-off commercial charter request. Our teams check the applicable regime, aircraft availability and ground handling before confirming the mission. Service hours alone don’t establish that feasibility.
What information is needed for a charter quotation?
Send the stops, dates, local times, passenger count and luggage details. Include nationalities for entry preparation and the expected duration of meetings. For a return trip, we compare waiting nearby with repositioning. Published airport hours, even 24-hour services, aren’t enough on their own to decide which arrangement fits the programme.
