Thaiwoo, main venue of the 2022 snow events, lines up 31 runs and a pedestrian, European-style village. The smart route: jet to Beijing, high-speed rail onward

Theory says land as close as possible, at Zhangjiakou. Practice says otherwise: China's business-capable airports are few, and Beijing offers the most reliable handling for a foreign-registered jet. From Beijing North station, the Games' high-speed line reaches Taizicheng, at the foot of the resorts, in about an hour, with shuttles to each area. Door to door, the jet-plus-rail combination beats the three-hour road option, and by far when it snows.

Permits: the real starting line

A private flight into China is won on paperwork first: landing permits issued by the Chinese civil aviation authority in five working days minimum, prior registration of the aircraft in its system, framed slots and timings.
