A private jet from Luxembourg to London links Findel (LUX / ELLX) with London's business airfields in 1h15. Two clocks frame the day. Luxembourg airport is closed from 23:00 to 06:00, with no exemption for business aviation, and London runs one hour behind the Grand Duchy. Our fleet page describes a Mustang with no lavatory and a cabin 1.37 m high: for two or three executives heading to a meeting, an hour and a quarter is comfortable enough. Beyond four passengers, or with weekend luggage, we quote a larger aircraft on request. Findel closes at 23:00, and no private jet is exempt

The AIP for Belgium and Luxembourg, in its edition of 3 September 2026, closes Luxembourg airport to traffic from 23:00 to 06:00 local time, all year. The exceptions cover state, search and rescue, humanitarian, hospital and distress flights, plus delayed scheduled services: a chartered business flight is not among them. Luxembourg's air navigation administration adds that any flight missing from the scheduled list needs an individual request to extend the curfew, with no guarantee it will be granted.

That sets the return. London is one hour behind Luxembourg in winter and summer alike, so a 1h15 flight must leave London by about 20:45 UK time at the latest. We aim for 20:15, to keep a margin for taxiing and winds.

The other way round, a 06:15 departure from Findel lands at around 06:30 London time, which is when London City and Biggin Hill open on weekdays. Farnborough opens only at 07:00, so allow for a take-off from Luxembourg at around 06:45.

Six business hours to book handling in Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, ground handling for general aviation is mandatory and coordinated by the Business Aviation Center. The operator describes it as the country's only private jet terminal, 1 km from the main terminal and 7 km from the city centre. Under the AIP, the handling request must reach it at least six business hours before the flight to obtain prior permission, with the aircraft's noise certificate and fixed arrival and departure times: an open-ended return is not accepted.

The standard time on the ground is 72 hours. Longer stays must be notified, and the aircraft may have to be repositioned. The operator lists the terminal as open from 06:00 to 22:00, with extensions on request, while the AIP has it coordinating handling until 23:00: for an arrival after 22:00, we confirm the extension at booking. The great-circle distance is about 480 km to London City or Biggin Hill, and just over 520 km to Farnborough or Luton.

London City: customs notice by 14:00 the day before

For the City and Canary Wharf, London City is the closest field, but it needs planning. The UK AIP requires notice for customs and immigration by 14:00 on the previous day, as the airport has no permanent customs presence. A Luxembourg to London trip decided in the morning for the same afternoon will therefore, as a rule, not go through London City.

The runway also imposes its 5.5° approach. The AIP admits only aircraft whose procedures for that angle have been approved by the authority of their state of registry, and we check it for every aircraft we put forward. Each movement also needs an ACL slot and a handling agent, the Jet Centre for business aviation.

Passport and ETA: an ID card no longer gets you into London

A Luxembourg, French or Belgian identity card no longer gets you into the UK. The UK government accepts one only from holders of EUSS status, a frontier worker permit and a few other cases. You need a passport and, for EU citizens other than Irish, an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), valid for 2 years or until the passport expires. A decision usually comes within a day, sometimes up to 3 working days.

On a private jet, that check happens before take-off. The General Aviation Report, filed no later than 2 hours before departure, lets the Home Office confirm that every passenger holds valid permission to travel; anyone without an ETA or visa should not be carried.

Heading to Luxembourg, a British passport enters the Schengen area at Findel. The EES, fully in service since April 2026, records fingerprints and a photo on first entry, and visa-free stays remain capped at 90 days in any 180.
