4,200 km down the Atlantic side of Africa

The great-circle distance between Le Bourget and Blaise Diagne is close to 4,200 km, which means 5h15 to 5h45 of flight depending on the aircraft category and the headwind. The direct track crosses Spain, then follows the African coastline down to Senegal. Casablanca and Nouakchott sit almost exactly on that line, so a technical stop at either adds only a few kilometres.

Senegal runs on GMT with no daylight saving time: the same clock as Accra all year round and as London in winter, one hour behind London in summer. Take off from Le Bourget at 10:00 in July and you land in Dakar around 13:30; in January, around 14:30.

At Le Bourget, the APU is limited to the last 10 minutes before departure

Under a French order of 28 July 2023 set out in the French AIP, a departing aircraft at Le Bourget may run its auxiliary power unit (APU) only 10 minutes before its scheduled off-block time when the stand has alternative electrical power and air conditioning or heating, including mobile units supplied by the FBO. Without that equipment, the limit is 45 minutes.

Blaise Diagne (DSS / GOBD): a 3,500 m runway and 24-hour services

The ASECNA AIP, in the section in force since 16 April 2026, describes an airport where everything a flight needs works day and night.

• Runway 01/19: 3,500 m by 60 m, asphalt concrete, 88 m above sea level
• Around the clock: customs and immigration, health services, air traffic control, fuel, ground handling
• Parking: a "general aviation" apron and a VIP apron are among the published aprons
• Fuel: Jet A1 by hydrant or bowser, with 7,500 m3 of storage
• Location: near Diass, 24 nautical miles (about 44 km) from Dakar

Senegal landing permit: ten days for a charter, valid for 72 hours

A foreign aircraft may overfly or land in Senegal only with an authorisation, and its first landing must be at a customs airport. The order of 17 February 2004, reproduced in the Senegal AIP, sets the filing deadlines with the national civil aviation agency.

• One-off commercial flight, which covers a charter: at least 10 days ahead
• Private, non-commercial flight: 3 days by fax or aeronautical message, 10 days by letter
• Validity: 72 hours for a one-off flight, unless stated otherwise

If the departure slips beyond that window, the operator has to go back to the authority. Along the way, Mauritania, an ASECNA member, asks for 2 to 3 days' prior notice for a private flight.

Visa and vaccines: the rule changed on 9 March 2026

Senegal sorts travellers into three categories by nationality: visa-exempt, visa issued without prior consultation, or visa subject to the Ministry of the Interior, as the Consulate General of Senegal in Paris explains. French citizens enter without a visa for stays under three months, with a passport valid for more than six months.
