The Schengen limit, the first constraint on your itinerary
This is the point to settle before any other: Périgueux-Bassillac is open to intra-Schengen international traffic only. There is no permanent border post.
In practice, a flight from London, Dubai, or any point outside the Schengen area cannot land directly at Périgueux. It requires either a customs clearance stop at an approved airport, or a different arrival airfield.
From Paris, Nice, Milan, Madrid or Geneva under the Schengen agreement, there is no difficulty: the sector is direct. It is the first question our teams ask on any request towards Périgueux, ahead of the aircraft itself.
A 1,750 metre runway, but only 30 metres wide
Length is not the only parameter. With 1,750 metres of paved runway and above all 30 metres of width, the field falls under reference code 2C, sized for aircraft of moderate wingspan.
Pavement strength is published as PCN 31 F/C/W/T. That figure, combined with the available width and length, rules out the heaviest aircraft and calls for a check on each individual airframe. Very light, light and midsize categories operate there without difficulty; above that, the calculation is made case by case.
Alongside the paved runway, an 845 metre grass strip remains usable in daylight, reserved for light aviation.
Short opening hours, but 24-hour access on notice
Standard opening is brief: 08:00 to 12:00 then 13:00 to 17:00 on weekdays. Weekends and public holidays operate on self-information, in French only.
The good news for business aviation is that the field accepts 24-hour opening against 48 hours' notice. That is genuine flexibility, rare at an airfield of this size, but it requires planning: a request made the evening before will not do.
AFIS is provided in French and English during opening hours. Rescue and firefighting services are category 5 within those windows, with possible downgrade published by NOTAM.
Fuel, parking and crew comfort
AVGAS 100LL is dispensed by automated pump 24 hours a day. JET A1 is available during opening hours, or continuously on notice, in line with the airport's opening logic.
Parking is free, with around 80 spaces. The site provides a crew rest room and a meeting room, two facilities that make a real difference during a daytime aircraft wait.

Which private jet for Périgueux
The field's dimensions point towards light and midsize categories rather than long range aircraft.
- Very light jets: the simplest choice on short French sectors.
- Phenom 300: 6 to 8 passengers, the standard from Paris or Nice.
- PC-24: designed for short runways, particularly well suited to this field.
- PC-12: an economical turboprop on short regional sectors.
The full range is on our fleet page, and the brackets by category on private jet rental cost.
Périgueux or Brive: how to choose
The two airfields both serve the Périgord and complement each other rather than compete.
Périgueux wins on immediate proximity to the prefecture and on its 24-hour opening against notice. Brive Dordogne Valley wins on the runway, 2,100 by 45 metres, and on the absence of any Schengen restriction.
The rule is simple: if your flight comes from outside the Schengen area, or if the aircraft is heavy, arrival is at Brive. In every other case, Périgueux puts you closer. Other airfields are listed on our private jet airports page.
Chartering to or from Périgueux with IBC Aviation
As an independent broker we settle three checks before confirming: the Schengen status of your departure point, the aircraft's compatibility with a 1,750 by 30 metre runway and PCN 31 pavement, and the filing of the 48-hour notice if your schedule falls outside standard hours.
