Private Jet to Rennes: A 24-Hour Tower, Customs and Handling

Rennes-Saint-Jacques, a control tower open around the clock

Part of the VINCI Airports network, the airport is run by SEARD, which also operates Dinard, on behalf of the Brittany Region as owner. Its website describes it as open 24/7. The AIP bears this out: tower, approach and flight information services run without a break.

Non-commercial flying dominates. The French airports union, UAF, counted 30,252 non-commercial movements in 2025, nearly four times the 8,159 commercial ones, for 512,020 passengers.

Codes RNS (IATA), LFRN (ICAO)
Main runway 10/28, 2,102 m by 45 m, bituminous concrete
Landing distance 2,031 m on runway 10, 2,102 m on runway 28
Precision approach Category I ILS on runway 28 only
Air traffic control and fire cover 24 hours a day, level 6, level 7 on request
Customs, non-Schengen flights 5am to 10.30pm on weekdays with 24 hours' notice, 6am to 10.30pm at weekends and on public holidays with 48 hours
De-icing from 15 October to 15 April
Fuel Jet A1, on 48 hours' notice outside published hours, and AVGAS 100LL

Handling on the commercial apron is booked two days ahead

Under the AIP, stands on the commercial aprons are reserved for scheduled flights, state aircraft and, for everyone else, compulsory handling requested 48 hours in advance. A private jet falls into that last group, and the operator takes general and business aviation requests through its Myhandling platform.

The military apron is no way round it. It is managed solely by the French armed forces, and the AIP bars aircraft above 7 tonnes, emergency diversions aside.

The 2026 tariff guide penalises last-minute arrivals. A flight that turns up without a prior request pays a 100% surcharge on handling, diversions excepted. Cancelling between 24 and 48 hours before arrival costs half the handling fee, and inside 24 hours the full fee, unless weather or air traffic control is the cause.

In return, the airport lists what it provides: a shuttle between aircraft and terminal, a crew rest room with a shower, help with immigration and customs formalities, a weather briefing, and hotel and chauffeured car bookings.

Non-Schengen flights: last arrival at 10.30pm

Immigration and customs work inside the terminal all year, within set hours. According to the AIP, a non-Schengen flight is accepted from 5am to 10.30pm local time Monday to Friday with 24 hours' notice, and from 6am to 10.30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays with 48 hours. Outside those hours it is refused.

The all-night tower therefore mainly benefits flights within Schengen. A return from Brussels, Luxembourg or Nice can land after midnight. A flight from London, Dubai or New York has to be on the runway before 10.30pm.

Flying at night: what the 2026 tariff guide says

Between 10pm and 6am, the airport's guide applies two surcharges: 47% on the landing fee and 50% on handling. Sundays and public holidays add a further 50% to handling, and those increases stack.

Logistics weigh more than price. Beyond 10.30pm, when published handling hours end, the request has to reach the airport before 9.30pm. Jet A1 outside the hours announced by NOTAM needs 48 hours' notice, which matters for a night departure that includes refuelling.

De-icing from October to April, an ILS at one end only

Rennes de-ices aircraft from 15 October to 15 April, and the 2026 tariff treats it as a flat fee per operation, fluid included. Dinard, on the coast, offers no such service, which makes Rennes a possible fallback for an early departure in frost.

Only runway 28 has a Category I ILS and a 900 m approach lighting system; runway 10 has neither. The AIP rules out ILS arrivals below 550 m visibility and any departure below 250 m. We look at those thresholds the day before an early flight.

SPACE and European Cyber Week, the busy weeks

Every year in mid-September, the Rennes Parc-Expo hosts SPACE, the international livestock fair, with a free shuttle linking it to the airport during the show. The organisers announce 1,200 exhibitors, 365 of them international companies from 40 countries, and 14,000 international visitors from 125 countries. In September 2026 the airport itself warned of heavy road traffic towards the terminal during the fair.

The Couvent des Jacobins hosts the European Cyber Week from 16 to 19 November 2026, a forum on cybersecurity and defence artificial intelligence that drew more than 8,500 participants in 2025. The airport puts the city centre 15 minutes away.

Saint-Malo is some 50 minutes by road according to the UAF, and our guide to Mont-Saint-Michel by private jet covers the bay.

Which aircraft from Geneva, London or Nice

With at least 2,031 m available for landing, the runway takes light and midsize jets without reservation. A long-range aircraft is subject to a weight calculation, and level 7 fire cover can be requested for the largest types.

  • Phenom 300: a light jet from €4,000 per hour, suited to the 45 minutes or so from Paris-Le Bourget or Farnborough.
  • Citation XLS: a midsize jet from €4,800 per hour, for Brussels, around 1h00, Luxembourg or Lyon, about 1h05, and Geneva, in the order of 1h10.
  • Nice and Zurich: around 1h30 and 1h20, in a light or midsize jet depending on passenger numbers.

The train also links Paris and Rennes. A private jet makes most sense from Geneva airport, London, Brussels or Nice, or to fit two stops into one day. The category is presented on our light jets page, and our private jet rental rates give the hourly price.

Chartering to or from Rennes with IBC Aviation

As an independent broker, IBC Aviation operates no aircraft. Our Paris charter team selects the operator, then settles four points specific to Rennes:

  • The handling request, filed 48 hours before arrival
  • For a non-Schengen flight, a schedule between customs opening and 10.30pm
  • For a night departure, handling requested before 9.30pm and fuel ordered two days earlier
  • In winter, the de-icing slot

Ground arrangements follow the practice described in our guide to the private terminal, and our article on the added value of a charter broker explains what that work changes for you.

Frequently asked questions

Can a private jet land at Rennes in the middle of the night?

Yes, for a flight within the Schengen area, since the tower and level 6 fire cover operate around the clock. After 10.30pm, handling must be requested before 9.30pm. Between 10pm and 6am, the 2026 tariff guide adds 47% to the landing fee and 50% to handling.

How late can a flight from London arrive at Rennes?

Until 10.30pm local time, every day, with customs accepting non-Schengen flights from 5am on weekdays with 24 hours' notice, and from 6am at weekends and on public holidays with 48 hours' notice. Outside those hours, the airport refuses any non-Schengen flight.

Where does a business jet park at Rennes airport?

On the commercial apron, with compulsory handling requested 48 hours ahead on the Myhandling platform. The military apron is closed to aircraft above 7 tonnes, except in an emergency. Without a prior request, the 2026 tariff guide applies a 100% surcharge to handling, diversions excepted.

How much runway is available for landing at Rennes?

Runway 10/28 measures 2,102 m by 45 m. A displaced threshold cuts landing distance to 2,031 m on runway 10. On runway 28, the only one with an ILS, it remains 2,102 m. Light and midsize jets land without reservation, a long-range aircraft after a weight calculation.

When is the European Cyber Week in Rennes?

From 16 to 19 November 2026, at the Couvent des Jacobins, according to the organiser. This forum on cybersecurity and defence artificial intelligence drew more than 8,500 participants in 2025. Rennes airport says the city centre is 15 minutes away.
