Gulfstream G600 in flight over coastal landscape

Gulfstream G650 and G650ER: Specs, Range and Price

A range that links continents

Range is the G650's first argument. In its original version, it covers about 7,000 nautical miles (close to 12,960 km) at Mach 0.85. The G650ER version, for Extended Range, raises that figure to 7,500 nautical miles (13,890 km). In practical terms, the G650ER connects city pairs such as Paris to Singapore, Dubai to Los Angeles or New York to Hong Kong without a stop. This capability places it in the category of ultra-long-range jets, those that handle intercontinental routes in a single leg.

Among the fastest aircraft in the sky

The G650's top speed reaches Mach 0.925, a little over 92% of the speed of sound. It remains subsonic, but ranks among the fastest civil jets in service. In everyday use, it cruises at Mach 0.85 when range is the priority, and up to Mach 0.90 in high-speed cruise to save time on a given leg. This margin of speed makes it possible to balance each flight between distance and duration.

A cabin built for long journeys

The cabin measures 14.27 m long, 2.59 m wide and 1.95 m high, which allows standing room along its full length. Gulfstream presents it as one of the most spacious in its class at the time of its launch. It can hold up to four separate living areas, seat up to eighteen passengers and sleep up to ten on overnight flights.

Natural light is one of its signatures: sixteen panoramic oval windows, eight on each side, illuminate the whole fuselage. On comfort, Gulfstream states that cabin air is fully replenished and that the cabin altitude is among the lowest in its class, around 4,060 feet when cruising at 45,000 feet. An interior pressure closer to sea level reduces the fatigue felt on intercontinental flights.

Engines and ceiling

The G650 is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines, each producing close to 16,900 pounds of thrust. This powerplant gives it an operating ceiling of 51,000 feet (15,545 m), above most commercial traffic and a good share of weather disturbances.

G650 or G650ER: what is the difference?

The G650ER uses the G650 airframe with no structural change. The only evolution is fuel capacity: it carries more, which raises its range from 7,000 to 7,500 nautical miles, about 500 miles more. Everything else, cabin, speed and engines, is identical. The choice between the two versions therefore comes down to a need for distance.

Records that built its reputation

The G650 left its mark on recent business-aviation history through its performance. In 2013, an aircraft flew around the world in 41 hours and 7 minutes, setting several city-pair records along the way. In 2019, a G650ER flew from Singapore to Tucson, Arizona, covering 8,379 nautical miles in a single leg in 15 hours and 23 minutes, to this day the longest non-stop flight ever made by a business jet. In total, the G650 family claims more than ninety city-pair speed records.

Production and market

The G650 first flew in November 2009, with first deliveries in December 2012. The G650ER arrived in 2014. Production ended in February 2025, after about 598 aircraft were built. Gulfstream gave it two successors, the G700 and G800, yet the G650 remains highly sought after. When new, the G650ER was offered at around 70 million dollars. On the pre-owned market, prices today range from roughly 30 to 60 million dollars, depending on year, flight hours and interior. Demand stays strong and availability is limited.
