Italy by private jet

Private Jet to Italy: Milan, Rome, Capri, Sardinia

Italy by private jet, 1 hour from Europe

From Paris, Geneva or London, the Italian hubs are reached in 1 to 2 hours on a light or midsize jet. As Italy is in the Schengen Area, a flight from another Schengen point arrives with no passport control; arrivals from London, the Gulf or Asia cross an external border and clear customs at a designated airport. The table below sums up the hubs and their airports.

Destination Private-jet airport Good to know
Milan / lakes / Portofino Linate (LIN) Milano Prime terminal, lakes by road/heli
Rome Ciampino (CIA) Business-aviation airport, centre 15 km
Venice Marco Polo (VCE) Private water taxi to San Marco
Florence / Tuscany Florence (FLR), Pisa (PSA) Short runway, Pisa as fallback
Capri / Amalfi Coast Naples (NAP) + helicopter No airport, helicopter or boat
Sardinia / Costa Smeralda Olbia (OLB) Tight slots in July-August

Matching the aircraft, the airport and the transfers to the itinerary is at the heart of a broker's role. To compare categories, browse our aircraft fleet, noting that light jets are enough from Europe.

Milan, the lakes and Portofino

Milan is Italy's main business gateway. Linate (LIN), about 7 km from the centre, is home to Milano Prime, the dedicated executive terminal (private lounges, hangars, direct apron access), expanded in 2025 and joined by a Jetex FBO in early 2026. Malpensa (MXP) is the alternative for long-range aircraft. From Milan, Lake Como is an hour by road or a helicopter hop away, and Portofino by road or air. Milan demand was lifted by the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in early 2026.

Rome, Florence and Tuscany

In Rome, business aviation concentrates at Ciampino (CIA), closer to the centre (about 15 km) than Fiumicino. Ciampino operates 06:00 to 23:00; private flights need no PPR there, unlike some commercial flights. In Tuscany, Florence airport (FLR) has a runway of only about 1,560 m, which limits aircraft to light and midsize jets and leads to diversions in strong winds or low visibility. For larger cabins, Pisa (PSA) serves as the alternative, followed by a road or helicopter transfer to Florence and the Chianti estates.

Venice and the lagoon

Venice is served by Marco Polo (VCE) on the mainland, with FBO handling and a VIP lounge. The signature of the place is the last leg: a private water taxi from the terminal to San Marco or the island hotels, with a helicopter option. The small historic Lido field (Nicelli) takes light aircraft only, not jets.

Capri, the Amalfi Coast and Sardinia

Capri and the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Ravello, Sorrento) have no airport. Access is via Naples (NAP), then a helicopter transfer (Capri in under 30 minutes) or a boat leg from Naples or Sorrento. Orchestrating this last leg is the real challenge of the region.

In Sardinia, Olbia (OLB) is the gateway to the Costa Smeralda (Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo), renamed in 2025 in memory of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, founder of the Costa Smeralda. Its runway of about 2,745 m takes light to long-range jets, but the slots of late July and early August run on declared capacity: a late request may find no slot at the desired time. Here you plan in weeks of lead time, as our Olbia by private jet page notes.

From Europe, the Gulf and Asia: which jet, which access?

Flight times are indicative:

  • From Europe: Paris, Geneva or London to Milan or Rome in 1 to 2 hours, on a light or midsize jet (Phenom 300, Citation XLS).
  • From the Gulf: Dubai to Milan in 5h45 to 6h15 and Rome in just under 6 hours, on a long-range aircraft.
  • From Asia: Bangkok to Italy is an ultra-long-range mission (around 12 to 14 hours with a likely stop).

Beyond the aircraft, the challenge is access: choosing the right airport of entry for customs (Schengen internal or external border), securing summer slots at Olbia and the constrained fields, holding Pisa or Bologna as a fallback to Florence, and pre-arranging the helicopter or boat to Capri. No online comparator handles this chain; that is a broker's role. For the choice of aircraft, see our guide on private jet range by aircraft category, and our comparison of private jet vs first class.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport for Milan and Rome by private jet?

In Milan, Linate (LIN) and its Milano Prime terminal are the reference, with Malpensa as an alternative for long-range aircraft. In Rome, business aviation uses Ciampino (CIA), closer to the centre than Fiumicino, with no PPR for private flights.

Can you land near Capri and the Amalfi Coast?

No, there is no airport at Capri or on the Amalfi Coast. You arrive at Naples (NAP), then reach Capri by helicopter (under 30 minutes) or by boat from Naples or Sorrento.

Which airport for Sardinia and the Costa Smeralda?

Olbia (OLB), minutes from Porto Cervo. Its runway takes jets up to long-range types, but the slots of late July and early August are very tight: you need to book several weeks ahead.

How long is the flight to Italy?

About 1 to 2 hours from Paris, Geneva or London, on a light or midsize jet. From Dubai, allow 5h45 to 6h15 to Milan on a long-range aircraft.

Florence or Pisa for Tuscany?

Florence (FLR) is the closest but its short runway (about 1,560 m) limits aircraft size and leads to diversions in bad weather. Larger cabins use Pisa (PSA), then a road or helicopter transfer.

Do you need to book early for Italy in summer?

Yes, especially for Sardinia, Capri and the lakes. Slots and parking fill fast in July-August; several weeks' lead time is recommended at the busiest fields.
