A private jet to or from Pau lands at Pau-Pyrénées (PUF), 10 km north-west of the town: allow about 1h10 from Paris-Le Bourget and 1h30 from London, depending on the aircraft and the wind, in a light jet from €4,000 per hour. No request 48 hours ahead, no stand for your jet

Apart from scheduled airline flights, medical evacuations and emergencies, the AIP makes every parking stand subject to a request sent 48 hours ahead to the airport's traffic department. A marshaller guides each arrival: self-parking is prohibited.

Only three stands, numbered 8A to 8C, go to business aviation as a priority. They take wingspans of up to 24 m, enough for anything from a Phenom 300 to a Falcon 2000; the largest long-range jets are parked elsewhere. We file the request as soon as the operator is selected, stating the aircraft's wingspan.

The airport's website lists a business aviation lounge and a single point of contact available from 5am to 10.45pm, around the clock on prior request; night-time ground handling is requested two days ahead, and we book it together with the stand.

In fog or snow: landing at Pau in winter

Along with Bordeaux and Toulouse, Pau is one of three airports in south-west France equipped for all-weather landings, its operator says. The Category III ILS on runway 31 guides the aircraft down to the runway in very low visibility, along 900 m of approach lighting.

Two conditions come with it. Both aircraft and crew must be certified for Category II or III approaches, which we have the operator confirm for any winter flight. And during these procedures the AIP allows only one aircraft movement at a time on the manoeuvring area, which can delay a departure: we build that into the schedule we propose.

Two de-icing rigs, with 5,000 litres of fluid in stock, work from 5am to 11pm, and we fit a winter departure within those hours. When snow falls, the runway is cleared over a width of 30 m and a length of 2,100 m, with traffic suspended while the work is under way.

Customs: 24 hours on weekdays, 48 at weekends

Customs officers attend on request. For any flight to or from outside the Schengen area, on arrival and on departure, the AIP requires 24 hours' notice from Monday to Friday and 48 hours' notice at weekends and on public holidays. A Sunday flight from London to Pau is therefore declared on Friday, and we send the notice with the passenger list. From Geneva or Madrid, inside the Schengen area, none of this applies.

Jet A1 is available from 5.30am to 9pm local time, then on one hour's notice, which we give for a late flight. Fire cover, normally level 7, can be reduced to 5 or 6 by NOTAM; an aircraft that needs more asks for it 48 hours ahead, and we attach that request to the stand request.

Safran, Les 5 Étoiles de Pau and the Pau Golf Club

Business travel accounts for more than half of the 236,678 passengers handled in 2025, according to the operator. Aerospace weighs in: Turbomeca, now Safran Helicopter Engines, set up at Bordes on the eve of the Second World War, and the Adour basin is part of the Aerospace Valley cluster, the airport notes.

Every October, the Domaine de Sers hosts Les 5 Étoiles de Pau, an international CCI5*-L eventing competition: four days of dressage, cross-country and show jumping. The organiser announces the 2026 edition for 22 to 25 October and places the airport 10 minutes from the venue. With three priority stands for business aviation, we request parking as soon as a flight for those dates is confirmed.

Founded in 1856 at Billère, on the banks of the Gave, the Pau Golf Club claims the first course laid out on the European continent, according to its website. Gourette, Artouste and Jaca within two hours

The airport publishes its road times: one hour to Gourette, Artouste or La Pierre-Saint-Martin, 40 minutes to Lourdes, 1h15 to Biarritz and 1h30 to Jaca, in Spain.
