A private jet to or from Toulon, Hyères or Porquerolles lands at Toulon-Hyères (TLN), a naval air base 3 km south-east of Hyères; allow about 25 minutes from Nice and 1h15 from Paris-Le Bourget, depending on the aircraft and the wind. Naval air base: why your arrival is requested in advance

The French Ministry of the Armed Forces runs the airfield, which is restricted-use with military priority; civil traffic goes through the business terminal of a concession holder, 22 km from Toulon.

Outside scheduled airline services, every civil arrival needs permission requested by email from the concession holder, 4 hours ahead for an operator based in the European Union or Switzerland, or for a flight to or from the United States or Canada, and 24 hours ahead in all other cases. The handling request, which is mandatory, goes through the MyHandling platform. We file both as soon as the operator is selected.

The airfield is reserved for aircraft above 3.5 tonnes or carrying more than 10 passengers, unless the aerodrome director grants an exemption; a Citation Mustang, the lightest jet we offer, is already above that threshold.

The AIP limits use of the airfield to air traffic control hours, published by NOTAM, and bans all civil flights from 11pm to 7am under a noise charter dated 5 November 2002; the business terminal, open from 8am to 8pm, excludes business aviation between 19:00 and 07:00 UTC. We check the base NOTAMs before proposing a departure time.

For a late return, Marseille-Provence, about 85 km away as the crow flies, keeps air traffic control, customs and handling open around the clock on a 3,500 m runway: we can then have the flight leave from Marseille airport.

Landing on 1,850 m: what the runway means for your aircraft

The runway 05 threshold is displaced, which cuts the landing distance available to 1,850 m, against 2,061 m on runway 23. The ILS brings aircraft onto runway 05 on a 3.5° glide path, half a degree steeper than the usual value, and the PAPI must be used by day and by night.

Two military arrester cables cross runway 05/23 at 408 m and 259 m from its thresholds; the AIP advises aircraft with small wheels or low ground clearance against taxiing over them, a point we check with the operator.

Runway 13/31 is only used when the main runway is unavailable, and landing on runway 13 is prohibited. Crosswind is capped at 25 knots on a dry runway and 20 on a wet one. For a heavily loaded long-range jet, with a reference temperature of 30.6°C, we have a performance calculation made before confirming the flight.

Customs: 24 hours' notice, Schengen flights included

The GENDEC declaration is filed 24 hours before any international flight to or from Hyères, including one from a Schengen country. A Geneva-Hyères flight therefore follows the same rule as a London-Hyères flight; a domestic flight from Paris or Lyon is not affected. We file it with the handling request, from the passenger list you send us.

For a non-Schengen flight, customs work from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and until 7pm on Sunday, local time, according to the AIP and the terminal; for a Schengen flight, from 6am to 9pm. We schedule the arrival of an international flight within those hours.

Porquerolles: a boat, with no runway and no helicopter

The island has no aerodrome: the boat is the only way to get there, the Provence Méditerranée tourist office writes, with crossings all year round from La Tour Fondue, at the tip of the Giens peninsula, taking 10 to 15 minutes.

A helicopter runs into the national park. The beaches and natural areas of Porquerolles belong to its core zones, where a decree of 22 April 2009 bans powered flight below 1,000 m above the ground without the director's exemption, as Port-Cros National Park points out.

The airport puts the landing stage ten minutes away by road, and IBC Aviation books the car and a private boat together with the flight. Helicopters still have a role elsewhere: the airport quotes a quarter of an hour to Saint-Tropez by private jet and helicopter, a connection the AIP allows.

Villa Carmignac on Porquerolles, Villa Noailles in Hyères

On Porquerolles, a fifteen-minute walk from the harbour, the Villa Carmignac shows its contemporary art collection inside the national park. Its 2026 season runs until 1 November, Tuesday to Sunday, and visitors go in barefoot, notes the Carmignac Foundation. In July and August it recommends booking the visit: arrange the flight and the private boat at the same time.

In Hyères itself, the Villa Noailles, built by Robert Mallet-Stevens in the 1920s for Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, is now an art centre of national interest.
