Milan Linate (LIN / LIML) is the city's business airport: less than 7 km from the centre according to SEA Prime, linked to San Babila by metro line M4, with a 2,442 m runway and a private terminal, Linate Prime. Coordinated at level 3, like Malpensa, it requires a slot for every flight. Malpensa, about fifty kilometres to the north-west, has its own business aviation terminal open 24/7. Linate Prime, Milan's business aviation terminal

SEA Prime, the business aviation arm of the SEA group, runs both Linate Prime and Malpensa Prime. At Linate, the terminal gained a new wing, opened on 3 March 2026 after two years of works, to separate passenger flows further. The airport also hosts "Hangar X", opened with Sirio in May 2023, and SEA Prime presents it as Italy's first business aviation airport to offer sustainable aviation fuel.

The two Prime terminals handled around 34,400 movements together in 2024 and 36,000 in 2025, according to figures reported by the trade press, with no published split between Linate and Malpensa.

Slots and the hourly cap

Linate and Malpensa are both coordinated at level 3: a business flight cannot be improvised there, it is booked together with its slot. At Linate, general aviation coordination on the west apron works from 05:30 to midnight local time, and can be provided around the clock on prior request.

Linate's traffic is also framed by the 2001 "Bersani bis" decree, which caps scheduled flights there at 18 movements an hour, against 70 at Malpensa. Business aviation therefore shares an airport kept deliberately small, which makes slots valuable at busy times.

The weeks when Milan fills up

Three kinds of period weigh on availability. The Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Monza: SEA Prime handled 750 aircraft and helicopter movements for the 2023 race. The Fashion Weeks and the Salone del Mobile in spring. And exceptional events such as the Milano Cortina Winter Games: over January and February 2026, SEA Prime traffic rose by 13.5%, with peaks above 130 movements a day, and both Linate and Malpensa were closed to flights without prior authorisation from 4 February at 16:00 to 7 February 2026 at 22:00 local time, around the opening ceremony.

For those dates, the slot and the parking stand are booked together with the aircraft, several weeks ahead.

Malpensa, for night flights and larger aircraft

Malpensa Prime occupies a 1,400 m2 terminal between terminals 1 and 2, open 24/7, with a 50,000 m2 apron and a 5,000 m2 hangar, according to SEA Prime. The airport is further from the centre, 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic, but it takes over when Linate has no slot left, for a departure in the middle of the night, or for converted airliners.

Getting to Milan, the Fiera and Monza

From Linate, metro line M4 reaches San Babila, in the heart of the city, in about fifteen minutes, and a car takes 10 to 25 minutes depending on traffic. Fiera Milano in Rho, home of the Salone del Mobile, lies about twenty kilometres from the airport. During the Monza Grand Prix, cars and helicopters are booked together with the slot, because demand rises sharply at both airports at once.
