Chantilly has no airfield open to jets, so a private jet to or from Chantilly lands at Paris-Le Bourget (LBG), where customs and air traffic control run around the clock, and the A1 motorway leads on to the château. Why you land at Le Bourget rather than near the château

Around Chantilly, the AIP leaves no runway for a business jet. The Creil air base is not among the aerodromes open to public air traffic; Persan-Beaumont accepts visual flights only, on an 830 m paved strip and a 972 m grass runway, and Compiègne-Margny offers just 900 m of unpaved surface.

Le Bourget takes over, its AIP entry barring scheduled commercial traffic and airline charters: the French airports union, UAF, counted 57,227 movements in 2025, without a single airline passenger.

Returning the same evening: take off from Le Bourget before 10.15pm

The rule comes from a ministerial order of 15 February 2011, reproduced in the AIP, which covers any jet aircraft leaving its stand for take-off between 10.15pm and 6am local time. Landing stays open at night for jets certified to the Chapter 3, 4 or 14 noise standards: only uncertified aircraft are excluded between 11.30pm and 6.15am.

Only medical flights, emergencies and State missions are exempt. A business flight is not among them; a waiver, rarely granted, rests with the minister, and a breach exposes the operator to a fine from ACNUSA, the French airport noise authority.

After an evening race meeting or a dinner at the château, the return flight to Geneva or London must therefore have left its stand before 10.15pm: we set that time with the operator, then the chauffeur's, and if the evening runs late, we reschedule the flight from 6am.

On arrival at Le Bourget, an approved handler takes care of you

At Le Bourget, ground handling is compulsory and restricted to approved companies based on the airport. The crew enters the handler's name and the destination apron in item 18 of the flight plan: we select the handler and pass these details to the operator. On board, the auxiliary power unit may only run for 10 minutes before departure if the stand supplies power and air conditioning, 45 minutes otherwise, then 5 or 20 minutes after arrival. Charles de Gaulle and Beauvais, only if Le Bourget cannot take you

Paris-Charles de Gaulle, closer to Chantilly, is a coordinated airport: every landing and every take-off requires a slot allocated by COHOR, the French slot coordinator. We only use it when Le Bourget cannot take the flight, with the slot secured before any confirmation.

Beauvais-Tillé has a 2,429 m runway and customs, but any non-scheduled aircraft must book its parking 48 hours ahead, which we do on confirmation. Its tower operates from 7.15am to 11pm local time, the main runway closes at night beyond those hours, and extensions are reserved for scheduled commercial flights.

June 2027: the Diane, the Jockey Club and the Paris Air Show in one month

France Galop has run the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly since 1836 and the Prix de Diane since 1843; in 2026, the first was run on 31 May and the second on 14 June. For 2027, the organiser announces the Diane in June and the Jockey Club without a date, as of 22 September 2026.

That same month, the Paris Air Show occupies Le Bourget from 14 to 20 June 2027, according to its organisers. Air traffic restrictions for that week are published as the show approaches, and the event itself is covered in our Paris Air Show article. If the Diane falls within those dates, we book the aircraft and the handler as soon as they are announced.

The racecourse, the training grounds and the Domaine

Opened in 1834, the racecourse is the oldest of France Galop's six. It hosts 51 race days and holds up to 30,000 people over 65 hectares. Around it, the training centre lays out 120 hectares of turf gallops, 120 km of sand tracks and 12 km of jump courses, and more than 2,600 racehorses are stabled there at peak times.

The Domaine de Chantilly brings together the château, the Musée Condé and the Grandes Écuries, home to the Musée vivant du Cheval, a living horse museum; until 3 January 2027, the exhibition "Rosa Bonheur et le cheval" is split between the two museums, according to the Château de Chantilly.
