Private Jet Phuket: Private Terminal and Seaplane Islands

The only island private terminal in Thailand

Until 2022, a passenger arriving by private jet in Phuket went through the same formalities as scheduled traffic. The terminal operated by Siam Land Flying changed that: it is the country's second after MJets at Don Mueang, and the only one on an island. Private lounges, on-site clearance, direct access to the aircraft.

That independence counts for more here than elsewhere. The airport absorbs intense tourist traffic from October to April, and using a separate terminal removes the queue from a journey that, from Bangkok, runs under two hours door to door. The contrast is measured on arrival.

According to the Thai civil aviation authority's aeronautical information publication, the CAAT, runway 09 measures 3,000 m and runway 27 measures 3,100 m, both asphalt, with the aerodrome at 25.6 m elevation. Services run continuously, which removes the closing-time constraint that applies at other Thai platforms.

From Bangkok, and from considerably further

The Bangkok to Phuket sector takes about 1h20. A light jet covers it comfortably with a full cabin. From Singapore, allow in the order of two hours; from Hong Kong, about three and a half.

What makes Phuket unusual is that it is also reachable non-stop from much further away. An ultra long range jet links Geneva or London to the island in a single sector, which no other airport in the region offers with this level of ground service.

The island, coast to coast

Phuket runs roughly fifty kilometres from north to south, and the airport sits at its northern tip. It is a practical detail that often surprises: reaching the south of the island takes forty-five minutes to an hour by road depending on traffic, longer than the Bangkok sector itself once you are on the ground.

The west coast holds the beaches and the major hotel addresses, from Mai Khao in the north down to Kata and Nai Harn in the south. The east coast, less exposed to monsoon swell, holds the marinas and the departures towards the archipelago. Phuket Town, also on the east side, keeps its Sino-Portuguese architecture.

That geography bears directly on the aircraft and on the transfer. An evening arrival in the south of the island means an hour of driving in the dark; on some programmes, a helicopter transfer or a night in the north makes better sense than a later flight.

The islands that start where the runway ends

What makes Phuket useful reaches beyond Phuket. Phang Nga bay, Koh Yao Noi, the Phi Phi islands and Koh Racha have no runway, and are reached from the island by fast boat, by helicopter or by seaplane, each of those modes carrying its own weather window, capacity and operating hours. The call is made the day before, rarely earlier.

IBC Aviation is the official partner of Siam Seaplane, whose first approved landing sites lie precisely in this area. The aircraft, an amphibious Cessna Grand Caravan EX, carries up to eight passengers and flies in daylight. It lands on the water as close to the shore as possible, removing the ferry leg that usually follows a conventional flight.

On the marina side, the island has several bases for larger yachts, among them Ao Po Grand Marina to the north-east and Royal Phuket Marina to the east. Our teams set the jet's arrival against the boat's availability, in that order.

The season, and the week that fills the island

The south-west monsoon soaks the Andaman coast from May to October. High season therefore runs from November to April. It is also when slots and parking stands become scarce, when operators position their aircraft weeks ahead, and when a late request meets a full apron rather than an absence of aircraft. An Indian wedding follows the same calendar: our Indian destination wedding guide sets out the family jet and the guests' airliner from Mumbai.

One fixture concentrates demand: the Phuket King's Cup Regatta, the largest in Asia, created in 1987 for the sixtieth birthday of King Rama IX. Its 37th edition is announced for 5 to 12 December 2026, dates to be reconfirmed with the organisers. During that week, aircraft and parking availability tightens markedly, and booking is taken several weeks ahead.

Arranging your flight to or from Phuket

Three points shape our Phuket files. The first is the choice of terminal, since the island has a dedicated one. The second is the leg after landing, boat, helicopter or seaplane depending on the target island and on the approvals in force. The third is entry formalities, which change on 15 September 2026, covered in detail in our guide to private jet travel in Thailand.

Our Bangkok office runs all of it, on the local operators' time zone. The comparison of the country's seven runways is on our Thailand private jet airports page, and our indicative rates by category are in our pricing guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a private terminal at Phuket airport?

Yes, the Siam Land Private Jet Terminal, open since February 2022. It occupies 1,200 m² with its own immigration and customs posts, private lounges and direct access to the aircraft. It is the country's second terminal of this kind after Don Mueang, and the only one on an island.

How long is the runway at Phuket?

Runway 09 measures 3,000 m and runway 27 measures 3,100 m, both 45 m wide and asphalt. That length takes every category, up to an ultra long range aircraft at full load.

Does Phuket airport close at night?

No. Services run 24 hours a day according to the Thai AIP, which separates Phuket from Koh Samui, closing at 22h00, and Sukhothai, closing at 20h00.

How do I reach the Phi Phi islands or Koh Yao Noi from Phuket?

None of these islands has a runway. They are reached by fast boat, by helicopter or by seaplane. The first approved landing sites of Siam Seaplane, of which IBC Aviation is the official partner, lie precisely in this area.

When should I book for Phuket?

As early as possible between November and April, and particularly around the King's Cup Regatta, announced for 5 to 12 December 2026. During that week, aircraft and parking availability tightens noticeably.
