Superyacht and Private Jet in Phuket: Marinas and Events

The distance that matters: apron to quay

On most yachting destinations, the airport and the marina sit at opposite ends of the territory. In Phuket, the airport occupies the northern tip of the island and Yacht Haven the north-east coast. A short road connects them.

That detail changes how a programme is built. A crew receiving guests on the day itself has no need to budget an hour of driving, nor to carry the traffic risk that weighs on the southern half of the island. The other marinas, among them Ao Po Grand Marina, remain accessible but take longer to reach.

We therefore set the landing time against the departure time of the vessel, not the other way round. It is the same logic as a connecting flight, applied to a boat.

Two fixtures that bracket the season

Phuket's nautical calendar rests on two dates, a month apart, and each of them saturates slots and parking alike.

The Phuket King's Cup Regatta, the largest in Asia, was created in 1987 for the sixtieth birthday of King Rama IX. Its 37th edition is announced for 5 to 12 December 2026, dates to be reconfirmed with the organisers.

The Thailand International Boat Show is held at Phuket Yacht Haven. The January 2026 edition drew more than 100 exhibitors, over 70 vessels afloat and more than 6,000 visitors across four days. The next edition is expected in January, with dates to be confirmed by the organiser.

Between those two dates opens the best sailing window in the Andaman Sea, the south-west monsoon having passed and the high season running through to April.

Joining your vessel, or following it

Two needs recur, and they call for different arrangements. The first is boarding in Phuket for a cruise through the archipelago, which means a one-way sector with an aircraft that either returns empty or repositions.

The second is following the vessel across a regional itinerary, joining the crew in Langkawi, in Singapore or in the Andaman Sea depending on the programme. There, the aircraft becomes a mobility tool across several weeks, with stops decided days rather than months ahead.

In both cases the group question arises. A heavy jet carries eight to fourteen passengers depending on the cabin layout, which rarely matches the exact number boarding. We size the aircraft on the real figure, not the theoretical one.

The airport, and why it holds nothing up

The airport itself imposes nothing. Phuket (HKT / VTSP) has 3,100 m of runway on its 27 and 3,000 m on its 09, in asphalt, with services provided continuously according to the Thai civil aviation authority's aeronautical information publication, the CAAT.

The Siam Land Private Jet Terminal, open since February 2022, adds 1,200 m² with immigration and customs on site. No category constraint and no timing constraint, therefore, including for a direct flight from Europe or the American West Coast. The detail is on our private jet Phuket page.

One point does require anticipation during the two events: aircraft parking. It is booked, and it is booked early.

Frequently asked questions

How many superyacht berths does Phuket have?

Over one hundred across the island. Phuket Yacht Haven holds 322 berths in total, twelve of them reserved for vessels up to 50 m.

Which marina is closest to the airport?

Phuket Yacht Haven, on the north-east coast, a few minutes' drive from the airport at the northern tip of the island. The other marinas remain accessible but involve more driving, particularly towards the south.

When are Phuket's main nautical events?

The King's Cup Regatta is announced for 5 to 12 December 2026 for its 37th edition. The Thailand International Boat Show is held at Yacht Haven in January, the 2026 edition having drawn more than 100 exhibitors and over 70 vessels afloat. Dates for the next edition remain to be confirmed.

Does aircraft parking need booking?

Yes, and early during those two periods. Runway and opening hours pose no difficulty at Phuket, but parking stands become markedly scarce around the regatta and the show.
