Ultra long range private jet on the ramp at Van Nuys before a non-stop flight to Paris-Le Bourget, IBC Aviation

Private Jet Los Angeles to Paris: Nonstop in About 10h55

Los Angeles to Paris in about 10h55, non-stop

A private jet flies from Van Nuys to Paris-Le Bourget in about 10h55, from San Jose in about 10h45, and takes about 11h35 to fly back against the westerly winds. Only ultra long range jets hold that distance, and not all of them in both directions. On the way home, your take-off time in Paris depends on the fixed customs hours at Van Nuys, which our Paris office builds into the plan from the first call. 9,080 km (5,640 miles): which jets fly it non-stop, and which way

On the great circle, Van Nuys to Le Bourget is 9,080 km (5,640 miles), San Jose 8,960 km (5,570 miles). Over the North Atlantic the jet stream blows from west to east, so the crossing is shorter towards Europe. Our estimates, calibrated on the times we publish for Paris to New York:

  • Van Nuys to Paris-Le Bourget: about 10h55, and about 11h35 back.
  • Van Nuys to Geneva: about 11h25, and 12h05 back.
  • Van Nuys to Nice: about 11h45, and 12h25 back.
  • San Jose to Paris-Le Bourget: about 10h45, and 11h25 back.

Our fleet sheets give 15h30 of endurance for the Global 7500 and 14h30 for the Gulfstream G650. That leaves at least two hours in hand on every sector above, both ways.

The Falcon 8X (13h) and the Falcon 7X (12h30) cover all three destinations eastbound. Westbound, the 7X keeps under an hour of margin from Paris and the 8X about 35 minutes from Nice: with a full cabin or a winter headwind, we plan a fuel stop in the eastern United States or Canada, or a larger aircraft. A heavy jet, with six to nine hours of endurance, always stops.

Leaving Van Nuys or San Jose: noise rules decide the late departures

The FAA Chart Supplement lists the noise rules of Van Nuys, whose runway measures 8,001 ft (2,439 m). No aircraft whose certified take-off noise level, in FAA Advisory Circular 36-3, exceeds 74 dBA may take off between 22:00 and 07:00. At 77 dBA or more, an aircraft may not use the airport at all. Before we quote an evening departure, we check the certified figure of the jet we propose.

San Jose Mineta International has two 11,000 ft runways (3,353 m) and a curfew from 23:30 to 06:30, when only the jets on its schedule of authorised aircraft may operate. The list revised in November 2022 names the Global 5000 to 7500 series, the Falcon 7X and the G650, but not the Falcon 8X. For a departure after dinner from San Jose, we propose a listed type.

Los Angeles International and Oakland also have customs; our pages on charter in Los Angeles and in San Francisco compare the airfields.

Leaving the United States: a manifest, no passport booth

A Californian FBO has no exit passport control of the European kind. Foreign nationals leave the country "without government exit immigration inspection", in the words of the Department of Homeland Security.

The departure is recorded through data: the passenger manifest reaches CBP electronically at least 60 minutes before take-off on a private flight, and before the doors close on a charter, whose operator also obtains an outbound clearance. We collect the passport details at confirmation, and the operator files them.

Organise your California to Paris flight with IBC Aviation

We have no office in the United States. The file is handled by our Paris office, or our Geneva headquarters for a flight ending in Switzerland, because what decides the trip sits mostly in Europe: the stand at Le Bourget, the Schengen entry, the legs that follow. Californian constraints are checked from Paris too. Our notes for American travellers coming to France cover the stay itself.

Tell us your dates, your preferred airport and the number of passengers: our Paris team proposes an aircraft suited to both directions, with the take-off times already worked out.

Leave Van Nuys at lunchtime, land at Le Bourget for breakfast

California runs nine hours behind Paris for most of the year. The gap drops to eight hours from 25 to 31 October 2026 and from 14 to 27 March 2027, because daylight saving time starts and ends on different dates in the United States and in Europe.

With 10h55 in the air, a 12:30 departure from Van Nuys lands at Le Bourget around 08:25 the next morning, Paris time. The flight falls in the European night (see our advice on how to overcome jet lag). Le Bourget bans jet take-offs from 22:15 to 06:00, but not landings of jets certified to current noise standards. Our Le Bourget guide covers the terminals and the road into Paris.

On landing, the Entry/Exit System records your fingerprints and a facial image at the first Schengen border, Paris or Geneva alike. It has been fully operational since 10 April 2026 and needs no application: our page on EES and ETIAS gives the detail.

Flying home: California's customs hours set your Paris take-off

Westbound, what matters is when customs can receive you. Van Nuys is a user fee airport, and CBP officers work from the Signature West FBO on these hours, Pacific time, according to the CBP fact sheet for Van Nuys of January 2026:

  • Monday, Thursday and Sunday: 09:00 to 20:30.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 15:00 to 20:30.
  • Friday and Saturday: 09:00 to 14:30.

With about 11h35 in the air and the usual nine-hour gap, a Friday return leaves Le Bourget by about 11:55 to land before 14:30. On a Tuesday, leave between 12:25 and 17:55. San Jose receives private arrivals from 09:00 to 18:00 every day, so the last useful departure from Paris is around 15:35; Oakland, from 08:30 to 15:00 only.

Permission to land is requested from CBP before the jet takes off from Europe, at least 24 hours ahead at San Jose and Oakland, and holds for 30 minutes either side of the arrival time given. We set the Le Bourget departure backwards from that window.

After Paris: Geneva, Nice and the legs within Europe

Geneva or Nice can be the first stop instead, about 11h25 and 11h45 from Van Nuys. After Paris, the next legs have a starting price: Paris to Geneva from EUR 6,500 one way in a Citation Mustang with 4 seats, for 1h00, and Paris to Nice from EUR 9,000 in the same aircraft, for 1h30.

A jet registered outside the European Union cannot carry you commercially between two airports of the Union, so we charter a European operator for those legs; our note on cabotage rules explains why. Our offices in Geneva and Nice take over for the rest of the stay.

What the crossing costs: EUR 9,000 to 12,000 per flight hour

No California to Europe route has a fixed fare. Each hour in the air costs from EUR 9,000 to 12,000 in the ultra long range category; a heavy jet with a fuel stop starts from EUR 6,500 per hour. For scale, Paris to New York starts from EUR 115,000 one way in a Falcon 7X with 14 seats, for about 7h25: another route, not a Los Angeles fare.

The quote lists any positioning and any additional crew a long sector calls for. If the jet flies back empty, we tell you, and that sector sometimes returns to the market as an empty leg flight. Our hourly rates by aircraft category set out the rest.

From Van Nuys, San Jose or Oakland, to or from Paris, Geneva or Nice, our Paris office sets both take-off times before you commit: send us your California itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private jet from Los Angeles to Paris cost?

It is billed by the flight hour, with no fixed fare: EUR 9,000 to 12,000 per hour in an ultra long range jet, for about 10h55 from Van Nuys to Le Bourget and 11h35 back. A heavy jet with a fuel stop starts from EUR 6,500 per hour.

How long is a private flight from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Paris?

About 10h55 from Van Nuys and 10h45 from San Jose to Le Bourget, non-stop, with the westerly winds. The return takes about 11h35 to Van Nuys. Allow half an hour more for Geneva.

Which private jets fly Los Angeles to Paris without a stop?

The Global 7500 and the Gulfstream G650, with 15h30 and 14h30 of endurance, in both directions. The Falcon 7X and 8X fly it eastbound; westbound, the 7X keeps under an hour of margin from Paris and the 8X about 35 minutes from Nice, so we may plan a fuel stop.

Can we take off from Van Nuys late in the evening?

Only in an aircraft whose certified take-off noise level stays within 74 dBA: above it, take-offs are banned from 22:00 to 07:00. At San Jose, from 23:30 to 06:30, only the jets on the airport's list may operate.

What time should we leave Paris to clear customs at Van Nuys?

It depends on the day. CBP receives arrivals from 09:00 to 20:30 on Monday, Thursday and Sunday, from 15:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and until 14:30 on Friday and Saturday. A Friday return leaves Le Bourget by about 11:55.
